I am in the process of painting my Red Tent. and I hate it... it seems no matter how much prep I do, I can't get the paint to come out the way I want.

PIC?

What method you using?

I took off all the old paint, to bare metal. sanded it with a 220, and used a spray can.

Most of it comes out great, but some bubbles or cracks... I'm using rustoleum... made for metals, right?

One of the CPs came out awesome, and I'm really happy with it. I'm working on the top part.

I will go take some pictures after it's done drying in my garage for a few

You're painting your red tent with aerosol spray cans?!?

I'm cheap... well... poor, is more like it I guess... I've done lots of painting with spray cans before... and it generally turns out okay. and a side by side comparison of the colors is good too.

sounds like you didn't prime. First you will want to prime, then deal with the issue of using a rattle can for this.

I have a can of primer, but I didn't use it for some reason... I'm afraid I'm just going to have to strip all the paint off and start again...

Powder coating would cost some dough unless you know someone - I'd look around for an auto-body shop. Some of the places around here cut you a very good deal on painting stuff that they can spray after painting a car. I just asked around - and pitched it like whenever you can get to it or have this color in the gun. I've left metal panels and stuff with a few local guys and they've done excellent work for less than half of what I had it quoted for same amount of coverage. It's a good time killer/empty the paint can work.

It's definitely worth trying - Of course this also depends on how finicky you are about the shade of red. :)

Call one of the cheaper paint shooters in town like Maaco if you have one or similar. Last time I used Maaco I had a custom box made for a trailer painted for $125.00. And it was a big ass box.

If you want to rattle can it that's cool too. Make sure you prime it, light grit sand it, wipe it off with a damp rag and then shoot it. When you apply the coats try to dust it on. Don't try to have your paint job done in 1 or 2 coats. Shoot no more than 2 a day. Let that stuff cure out. I hear ya - not everyone is made of money.
