OK so I have a cab, it was already a mame (so no it wasn't converted from something :>P) and it has a PC in it that runs the Joshua Kernel "Ultracade" program (has circular menu instead of a list like in arcade legends)

Can I install a second hard drive to run regular MAME and just change the boot menu?

Anyone tried this?

Before I buy another cab, I would like to see if this has been/can be done.

Thanks.

it's a computer. you can essentially do whatever you want with it. I don't know how easy a keyboard is to access on your setup if you're talking changing the boot order or doing a boot menu (the more PITA method)

for the sake of convenience I would just yank the hard drive that's in it and make my own from the ground up. I've never attempted a MAME cab, so I've never messed with any frontends, I just use MAME32UI for my personal use with a gamepad.

:)

good luck.

You should be able to add a 2nd hard drive and leave the one in it now though im not sure what you would need to do internally with the file structure to make it work, I just ran my mame off the one drive and used it for that, Im making another dedicated machine for my daphne build and multicades with boards though because I dont wanna have to keep swapping around and I have the spare cabs to play with. You may be able to just save the file structure on the primary drive and keep it in a folder so you can just swap it when you want and then do the same with your mame files and drop them over. Mame just needs a folder with everything inside to run and you can do the same for your front end so yeah you could drag and drop that over and it should work. Im not sure how to tell you to have both though.
