Ive been getting my mame together and verifying all working roms of games that i would immediately play. One game i ran into a problem with is vs. super mario bros. The problem im seeing is no matter what combination of output settings i do, Mario's bibs are maroon as well as the power up mushrooms having maroon dots.

Is this normal for the ROM? Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?

Im using both Mame and Mame32

mine played fine, how old is your mame, have you updated it? I try to get my roms from romnation. I've had problems with others although that makes no sense.

i have the latest mame32 and my other mame is about 5 months old but game plays fine just the color of marios bibs are maroon instead of red...seems like all the red has a maroonish tint. It's not my monitor as it's LCD and i dont touch tinting and coloring since it's digital and should be accurately correct per what the software/game calls for.

I get my roms from mame newsgroups. a.b.emu.mame

lcd suck for true color
i have 3 diffrent ,brand new 19 inch lcd's and all three have diffrent color tints
a good old viewsonic pf220 crt or better is the only way to get true color (unless you want to spend 300$ on an lcd)ask some of the guys that do the arcade art repro

as far as your problem id say go to romkeper and get the roms they are the most up to date and great site with awsome database search function and see if their roms sets help you out

What front end are you using?
Nothing to do with the question, just wondering.

Im not using a front end. Im just putting things on my PC right now and verifying roms to make sure the ones i want to work work.

Front end will come in a few weeks but ill probably use hyperspin.

I think I know what you are talking about. I can't play MAME on the computer I am on right now to check, but I seem to remember noticing that the colors on Super Mario Bros. have always been slightly "off" compared to the NES version. I seem to remember exactly what you are saying: the red on Mario and other objects is a little darker than I expect it to be (maroonish). I think that is just the way it is.. probably not something you can fix.
