MAME question about 8800GTX output

Its a molex connector going to the monitor not a vga cable for those that asked.

That explains things. From the screen image you described it sounds to me like you have a STD res monitor in your cab. My cab has a D9400 in it so I run my monitor at 800X600 for everything. You can google EDID dongle to see what they are but as for where to get one, I have no clue.

From what I've read online the 8 series of nVidia cards wont go into those lower screen resolutions without this dongle.

Like I said before this rig will have other stuff on it besides MAME and the extra juice wiill be taken advantage of, just not in MAME.

What other stuff are you going to be running in the cab? Eventually your going to have to "buy" another part to make this work. If its the elusive EDID dongle or an ArcadeVGA one way or another your coming out of pocket.

Yeah its looking like its either or at this point, like I said before I already have a capable card so If I can use it I say why not so Ive been hunting for a EDID dongle and have not had any luck finding one for sale. I Guess at this point if I cant locate one then I will have to go the arcadevga route. Reason being I want to use the 8800 is for one I already had it, two, I can run pc games with it on the arcade if I wish and other emulators that will take advantage of a high end gpu. Its not just gonna be MAME but for now it is what it is.

If you want to run PC games on it then your going to want to do something about that monitor. Running a PC game thats supposed to be set at 1400X1050 or higher on a CGA monitor is going to make you want to poke your eyes out. Yes, it will be fast as all get out but its going to LOOK terrible! A game like DOOM might be OK but WoW would be another story.

I think its time to get rid of the monitor myself. Its not a cheap option but there are 27" arcade monitors that can run at 1024X768. The tube's dot pitch is crappy so your older games will look like they should. PC games are still going to look a bit off though.
