After my niece, nephew and brother came over and had a blast playing my games, I decided to build them a cocktail cab. They we're amused with my 60-n-1 cocktail I made previously out of a space fever, so I figured they would go ape s*#t over a Hyperspin powered MAME setup. Many, many hours later, it's finally done. I already had setup Hyperspin on my MAME, X-arcade Tank Stick, projector setup so I was familiar with the difficulty of Hyperspin. This time around, I made all of the proper payments (Hyperspin, Emu Movies, and Hotfile) to ease the locating and downloading of all the required files. I started with a Galaxian cocktail I picked up for free off craigslist (along with 1 other galaxian and a lazarian!) I used a Xin-Mo interface, Zippy joysticks and happ buttons I had lying around from other projects. For sound I used Logitech LS21 2.1 speaker with separate volume control. I loaded it wih lots of LED's, including blue flexible strips on the underside of the top for a blue halo effect. Everything is soldered and shrink tubed for longevity, including the Xin-Mo which every wire had to be extended even though i orderd the groovygame gear version with longer harnesses. It was just not long enough for a cocktail setup. I got it all finished up with an 17" LCD mounted vertically as a display and powered it up only to find that even though I had the vid card setup to rotate the monitor, the emulators (excluding mame) all launched to fullscreen sideways (DOH!!!). I researched and posted on the hyperboard and got no response on how to fix. Then, I spent a couple hours remounting the LCD horizontally hoping the viewing angle would be sufficient, WRONG!! All those that suggested not to do it were right. F#@K!!! Anyways, went on craigslist, purchased a 17" VGA for $20, dismantled it (editors note: never buy a monitor with built in speakers as this will add numerous components to remove from the equation and make the monitor chassis exponentially larger than that of a standard VGA.) and mounted it successfully. All in all, it was actually fun to build, gave me something to do when my wife works nights, and totally gratifying. I cant wait to hand it over to my brother and his family.
