After my niece, nephew and brother came over and had a blast playing my games, I decided to build them a cocktail cab. They we're amused with my 60-n-1 cocktail I made previously out of a space fever, so I figured they would go ape s*#t over a Hyperspin powered MAME setup. Many, many hours later, it's finally done. I already had setup Hyperspin on my MAME, X-arcade Tank Stick, projector setup so I was familiar with the difficulty of Hyperspin. This time around, I made all of the proper payments (Hyperspin, Emu Movies, and Hotfile) to ease the locating and downloading of all the required files. I started with a Galaxian cocktail I picked up for free off craigslist (along with 1 other galaxian and a lazarian!) I used a Xin-Mo interface, Zippy joysticks and happ buttons I had lying around from other projects. For sound I used Logitech LS21 2.1 speaker with separate volume control. I loaded it wih lots of LED's, including blue flexible strips on the underside of the top for a blue halo effect. Everything is soldered and shrink tubed for longevity, including the Xin-Mo which every wire had to be extended even though i orderd the groovygame gear version with longer harnesses. It was just not long enough for a cocktail setup. I got it all finished up with an 17" LCD mounted vertically as a display and powered it up only to find that even though I had the vid card setup to rotate the monitor, the emulators (excluding mame) all launched to fullscreen sideways (DOH!!!). I researched and posted on the hyperboard and got no response on how to fix. Then, I spent a couple hours remounting the LCD horizontally hoping the viewing angle would be sufficient, WRONG!! All those that suggested not to do it were right. F#@K!!! Anyways, went on craigslist, purchased a 17" VGA for $20, dismantled it (editors note: never buy a monitor with built in speakers as this will add numerous components to remove from the equation and make the monitor chassis exponentially larger than that of a standard VGA.) and mounted it successfully. All in all, it was actually fun to build, gave me something to do when my wife works nights, and totally gratifying. I cant wait to hand it over to my brother and his family.

Bob, I think you are missing a good picture from a bit away perhaps at a 3/4 angle so we can admire the whole thing at once.

I certainly applaud your craftsmanship... and I'm sure the kids will love it.

I'm not a fan of the buttonapocalypse on the coin door. Also not a fan of the extended control panel.

jeese, can i not get some props for my build?

I'm not sure if fishing for compliments will get more than just snarky
remarks about the big ole appendage gut punching the P1 player.

I'm not sure if a cocktail makes a good MAME machine for horz games. At least a vertical machine would have been more true to the midway style cocktail you gutted.

I hear ya. Im all about original dedicated cabs myself. I only have the 60 n 1 in my centuri cab till i get a new crt and time pilot pcb. Anyhow, the cocktail cab was gutted when i got it out of the trash. someone listed it along with two others that had been sitting outside for a couple of years.Sure i would have loved to track down the parts to properly restore it, but it was mostly a shell and in bad condition. My brother had mentioned how his kids wanted a cocktail. And seeing that they are not collectors and do not have the space for an upright, i gave them the most bang for the buck with a mame/ emulator setup.

Yeah, you should've posted this at Arcade Controls, where dedicated and MAME share space. Nice build. Some refinements would be not having all the carriage bolts, and the machine booting up MUCH faster.

Nice build, I bet the kids love it. I am curious, what other systems do you have on there? Do you have Dreamcast, TurboGrafx 16, Atari 2600, Laser Disc games, etc..?

I'm not here to knock the hard work. I understand what it takes to put together the Hyperspin. Thou in that setup I would of kept the vertical monitor orientation. Just putting Mame into "Cocktail" mode, gives each player a bigger screen area for 2 player horizontal games.

There should of been a few programs to help with the screen rotation issues.

Hopefully the kids will enjoy it, and heck it takes a cool uncle to go thru that kinda trouble in the first place.

In the long run, if your happy with the work.. and the kids are enjoying it.. then that's all that matters.
