Mame cabinet from old konami cab

So your gutting a maybe fully functional 4 player Jamma 2 button game? Take this type of post to a Mame forum. This kinda thing makes people upset here. You don't take a cabinet that is just 1 pcb board short of being fully functioning and Mame it. This is a preservation society.

I guess so man.. Thing is, this was already converted to another game, painted over, and modified to turn it into NBA Jam. I'm pretty sure the monitor in there is just an old TV as I looked up the model number online and that's what I came up with. The monitor mount is definitely "newer", not original. I guess I could turn it back into TMNT with a lot of work, but I pretty much considered it as gutted. If you really think people will get upset over it i'll take down the post. Just seems kind of silly that anyone would. But you're right, this could be the wrong forum I suppose..

2 months of hard work and it can be done. Monitor was bad, joysticks and buttons were garbage with no sideart or control panel overlay.

That's really nice man. I do appreciate all the hard work that goes into something like that. I'm not planning on butchering this cab as to make it beyond restoration in the future if I did ever want to turn it back into a TMNT cab. Really all i'll be doing is adding a new joystick layout and putting an LCD in there using the existing mounts that someone installed. I guess to some people that sound horrible, and I can totally understand that. The control panel was pretty damn messed up with all the holes in it from the conversion if you saw the pics, and I did consider just cutting a new piece of wood but I lack the tools or skills for that right now.

Honestly, if I had a lot more time on my hands and a bigger house i'd love to setup an actual arcade with dedicated machines. Setting up a mame cab just makes sense for me right now with the space I have to work with. I plan to keep the cab in good shape and not do anything beyond building a new cp. In time you may even see me back here restoring it as I think that would be pretty fun and rewarding.

Just don't toss the original monitor in the trash, even if it is broken. Put it up for free in the forums here so someone can pick it up, repair it and use it.

It isn't a TV set, the model number you got is probably the model number of the picture tube.

Whatever you put in a twice converted old cabinet is up to you. I have one of those same cabinets in storage waiting for me to eventually get to it.

Yeah, definitely going to keep the monitor. You're right, it might not be a TV. I could only find a reference to some TV model when I looked it up though, but who really knows with this old off stuff. Once I have more time/experience, and probably a new place, haha, I'd like to start finding some neglected arcade games to restore to their original glory. Monitors seem to be somewhat hard to come by so it'll be nice having one around. If that's too far off I'll be sure to offer it up on here for someone else to use.
