Hi all,
I recently took possession of a couple of inop 19" Makvision LCD monitors and wondered if any of you are familiar with them, or LCD repair in general...

The monitors are these models over at Happ
One doesn't turn on at all, and the other powers up for about 3-4 seconds with a white screen, then powers off, and repeats

Any thoughts on first steps?

Worth pursuing?
they seem to be able to take CGA AND VGA inputs so I'd hate to just throw them out..

theres two main problams with lcd monitors in general..

first is bad caps. They use cheap old caps when theyre built so you might see a 3 year old monitor with buldged 20 year old caps in it..

second is the backlights themselves krap out. If thats the case they usually power up then lose the backlight soon after.. screen usually has a pinkish tint to it if thats the case..

best of luck!! lets hope you get lucky with caps issues

hopefully netweent he two you could build one good one. those would make a sweet multicade monitor.

a white screen indicates that the lcd panel itself is not working. some times there is a fuse (often a pico fuse) on the pcb attached to the panel itself. and as cadillacman said you will often find bulged fuses on the power board.

Open them up, take some pics of the boards inside, and post them.
