Been a while so I might be remembering wrong, but IIRC I might be able to get a text only browser loaded on my Apple IIe through a serial connection to my desktop. I never actually tried it because it seemed so pointless... until now!!! If no one beats me to it (or tells me I'm wrong), I ought to give that a try later when I'm not so busy.
I'd post from my Windows '98 / Voodoo 3 gaming PC to say hi but too afraid to login online and pickup a virus. I worked too hard on a multi-boot DOS configuration and it runs everything too perfectly to risk it. As a matter of fact, I'm not even quite sure I could get it this way again if it failed but I do admire the courage here in this thread.
So the first person to post to klov via an actual dial up modem on windows xp or earlier, and provide proof wins the internet (and my respect, for about an hour). I'll even give you a free dial up provider (they're legit, at least they were 25 years ago.).
I struck out trying to post from Win98SE... seems like I couldn't make a secure connection to the forum with the newest browser I found to run on it (Opera 10.63). Sounds like maybe I could install KernelEx and get a newer browser running, but wasn't worth it. I was able to see the post though.
That same laptop dual boots 98SE and Win2K, which could probably run something new enough, but that's not as exciting...
Don't make me dig out my old Full Height 10MB hard drive (how am i ever going to fill it up?) Or my old tape back-up system. OR Running a Turbo XT and a soundblaster emulation card(i think it was turtle beach). Cutting edge EGA graphics.
