Hi All,

I have just started doing reno's to my house enclosing the Garage and opening the wall to the current Game room that is next to the Garage. I thought i would share a short video with you of the work that will be done. Once it's done i'll have a space large enough for our 25 Arcade games, Juke Box, and Pool Table.

My suggestion...

My suggestion... for whatever it's worth... don't level off the floors and have a sunken arcade so you can see across the tops of them. Nice railing between the two rooms, half way up, so pool sticks will still work. Then black light the garage area and glow-in-the-dark carpet to make the sunken arcade feel distinct from the other room.

Good luck with the remodel and cant wait to see the final result!

I appreciate any suggestions and like you i thought of going with a sunken floor for the arcade. I decided against it only because i would have to have stairs if i did a sunken floor, so stairs = less games. I am going to look into black lighting for sure and Glow - in - the dark carpet. The wall that i am opening up to the new area will be gone but only a portion of it as i have to put a beam in and can't take out all of the wall. I get the engineer report tomorrow so i'll know better than how big the opening will be in.

Thanks again for the suggestions,

I have my machines in the same room as my home theater... and the glow-n-the-dark carpet for the arcade area really helps define the space even though it's in an open room.

Google for black light carpet and don't skip over the kids room only sites. My pattern is called "space voyage"... just like luna city arcade. Then once I picked a pattern, I googled the pattern and found a place that had it on clearance for over half-price off of everywhere else.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Do you have different carpet between the two rooms? Thanks for the help!

Wow, that's a pretty serious reno. That's going to make a heck of an arcade when you're done. I guess you don't keep your vehicle(s) in the garage? I'm looking forward to your updates.

You could cut in to your upper floor and have the stairs go up from the edge of what is currently the garage... I imagine you were going to have to have a walk-way anyway to get to that area... right?

I think a sunken arcade area with railing would look pretty kickass personally... and it's MUCH less work to add stairs than to raise the garage IMHO...

Another quick post not much done today. I have been looking into the glow in the dark carpet like you guys said. I sure hope i can find something cool like that in Canada here. I also like the DJ lighting / Fog machine effects that Fatsquatch has on his videos so i'll be checking that out as well.

forget about the fog machine thats the last thing you want in your arcade over time it leaves a film on everything it comes in contact with, same with burning incense

Nice work on the reno so far...

Finally, I found another BC guy on here! Too bad you are in Terrace! hehe My cousin lives in Kitimat. A few years ago, I was trying to get him to look for classic arcade machines up there for me as they are hard to come by down here (I get a lot of mine in WA state). I was hoping to find some in the smaller towns... he didn't have much luck, but then again, I doubt he really tried very hard.

Nice to meet you, not too many collectors in BC. Don't knock Terrace! lol we were Hockeyville last!

I have posted some pictures of what the Arcade looked like before the Reno

Nice collection... somewhat similar to mine, although I sold a few that you have there. Know anybody else up in that area who collects?

Where do you find your machines up there... I would imagine there couldn't be too many places. When I was asking my cousin up in "The Mat" to look for me, he told me there were a bunch in the bowling alley there, but he said they got rid of most of them. Again, not sure whether I believe him or not... he has a history of BSing people. LOL

Thanks, I have a few others that wouldn't fit into the room but will once the Reno is done. I don't know of any other collectors up in the North and I have been collecting since 1995 or 96. I have one friend that has some that i told to but i service them for them and they are all Pinballs and to be honest he never plays them!

Do you have anything for sale right now?

I've got a bunch of cocktails I am thinking of selling (Stargate, Donkey Kong, Asteroids, Galag, Sea Invasion which was new in box) ...and possibly an upright Stargate as well. But I see you have a cocktail of it, or what looks like one.

When i took down the wall inbetween the two rooms the engineer wanted to put a beam in the middle of the room. Here was our solution to the problem, 21' Steel beam to span both rooms, crazy! Here is a picture of how they got the beam into the house:
