Well I guess I live a sheltered life but I went to a restaurant/ Ice House for lunch today and saw a video touchscreen MP3 jukebox. Where should I start on building one for my man cave?
Building a cabinet is no problem, I have plenty of MP3 files I would like to make it a LCD touchscreen but have never dealt with one nor bought one were can I find one at a decent price?
What type of front-ends are around
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT
Thanks
Walter

Hi Walter,

I built my own.

Last year I bought 2 Merit Megatouch upright units at auction for $25 plus fees/tax. This is the older upright units with the Platinum boardsets/software and one of them had a bad motherboard. One was restored to original operation with a new power supply and a lot of cleaning. The other was converted to an MP3 jukebox.

The computer got yanked. In its place went a P3-800 tiny system that I picked up for $10. It was dead, but recapping the motherboard and power supply brought it back to life. It had a laptop style CD-ROM drive, sound, video, but no hard drive. I installed a PATA to SATA adapter and put a solid state hard drive in it. (Cost more than everything else put together!)

The 19" monitor was recapped and adjusted. The PC had Windows XP installed along with touchscreen drivers and was set to 640x480 resolution along with a fixed 640x480 monitor definition in Windows. Next went DWJukebox software.

The 4" speaker was yanked and a new pair installed. A new 2 speaker/subwoofer setup from Creative Labs was procured. The sub was fastened into place inside the cab with some LONG screws through the side of the cab. The 2 speakers were set aside and the amp in the sub was used to power the 4" speakers installed in the factory cab locations.

The marquee was purchased and installed... http://www.gameongrafix.com/products/jukebox-marquee

Then music was loaded. Everything worked great!

After that I modified the cab a bit. An arcade button was installed next to the power switch and the switch wired to a PS/2 keyboard circuit board to be used as an Esc key. The DWJukebox software was reconfigured to shut down the PC if the Esc key was pressed. This shuts down the PC properly before the cab gets turned off.

Next mod was to chisel and file out one of the lock bar holes to fit a small USB socket pair. This allows me to hook a keyboard and a memory stick to add music without opening the panel to access the PC.

It was a hit when we had friends and family over for a big party last Memorial Day weekend. Komodo, Raven, ekeeb, Raiden_2112, and VectorJunkie have all gotten to give it a whirl that day. :)
