I want to be able to connect me Genesis to one of my JAMMA cabinets. I know people have done this before, but everywhere I see it they are selling the conversion and not sharing info. I tried hooking up the Genesis using this pinout:

[EDIT this is looking at the cable not the Genesis]

But when I do I get a flipping dark blue image. I assumed that this was the plug on the Genesis and not the av cable end. Am I wrong? Some people said that the genesis needs a video amp, but others say it does not. What has been you experience?

wow... that brings back some memories. I did that like 8 years ago :)

From the video you posted it looks like you just need to adjust the monitor.

Are you suggesting I adjust the the vertical hold? Or something more complex like the sync rate like people have to do with those 10XX in 1 jamma pcs out there?

Heres what you have for your YouTube video:

I am using the RGB out from the Genesis to connect it to my JAMMA arcade Cabinet. Please ignore the Street Fighter II audio, it is from the JAMMA board in the cabinet.

Do you have your SF2 PCB and your Genesis running together? Both maybe simultaneously sending signals to the monitor? That could be your problem. If not, looks like your colors are correct so Your connector is probably wired correctly, try adjusting hold pots, or sync if equipped.

If all else fails, there are AV adapters out there for just this kind of project.

The SF2 Board was running but not plugged into the monitor, it was just easier to leave the JAMMA connector plugged in. I was working off the RGB connectors on the monitor. I was worried you would say the sync pot! I want to be able to switch back and forth, having to adjust the sync pot completely defeats the purpose. I did all the others, there is no horzontal hold pot, at least not on the remote control board.

It could still be sending a mixed signal. Maybe thru a ground or could basically be anywhere in your jamma harness. Sounds to me like you have an original AV cable hacked into the harness, leaving many possibilities for a mixed signal. I'd unplug it from the SF2 PCB and see if it improves at all.

I will unplug, but the monitor is not connected to the JAMMA harness at all. I am plugging in directly to the RGB inputs on the monitor.

Unfortunately that's likely the case. That is to say... you'll need to adjust it every time you switch between SFII and Genesis. This doesn't really surprise me as this can even happen with different arcade PCBs and is a problem with MAME. They're not going to all sync exactly the same.

Try adjusting the sync controls.

FWIW: I don't know how you would get a "mixed signal".
