It just sucks that I can get on RGP at work but not KLOV. So, MOD lets get this done for me so I can get some work on the arcade done....while Im at work.

It doesn't work that way. If you can't browse at work... it's your works fault.

The MODS can't do a thing about it.

That is not completely true, the moderators can't fix it but the owner can. The website owner can classify the website as something that will get past most filters. For instance, KLOV used to be classified as 'medical information' when it was linked directly with the Lymphoma forums. At that time virtually no one was restricted from KLOV with the generic filtering software utilized by most companies. When it shifted to the new software it became classified as 'games and gaming'. That is when I, and many others became blocked.

At the present time I can access the KLOV forums but not the IAM/KLOV main site. Some of the links are broken, many of the linked pictures don't show up, and occasionally even the forums are blocked but it is still much better than what I had for the first few months of the new software.

Oddly, on occasion an individual thread will be blocked under the classification of 'games and gaming' but this is rare and almost always a fluff thread anyway...

I'd just stick with a nice size smart phone and tappatalk to surf during the
day. I'm in infosec and I know companies can go INSANE when people try to
get around the proxy filters by doing things like RDP to an external host,
creating an SSH or SSL tunnel, using a remote VPN point, jumping off proxies,
hell I've even seen tunneling http inside ping packets.

Its not worth risking your job.. Now I obviously dont agree with blocking this
forum and my company doesnt. But its your companies dime/time. They own
the pipe and the packets and can do what they want with them.

This doesn't change my answer. Just because the mods can change the metadata back to "Lymphoma Information" doesn't mean they should so people can sneak by work filters.

I run a university web site, and I wouldn't alter the metadata to let a few people who can't/shouldn't be browsing through.

If it's not a big deal, ask your boss to get the server monkeys to add the site as an exception. If it is a big deal, and it can't be added/you'd get in trouble for asking... then maybe browsing this site at work isn't the best idea.

Not trying to be a dick or argumentative... I'm just saying. I like everybody.

+1 for ethics.

Being the IT guy here, I dont have to worry about that. But if I did, I would A-> Setup a VPN to my home network so everything came from there and thus didnt get filtered, or B-> Use UltraVNC / TightVNC, ect to take remote control of my home station. You could even setup a repeater on the home system if you didnt want to setup a DMZ ip on your router, or forward the specific ports! In reality, I personally would use a remote Xorg session over ssh, since I have a FreeBSD box @ home, but options A&B are for the normal folk :)

All this is well and good unless your IT department spends the time to research most of the common workarounds and blocks the specific outbound ports as well.

Of course I would never do that.....ok, I did.

The best one I think I have come up with to date is all facebook traffic redirects to the EDD website.

I would do the exact same thing as above :) Then again we are an ISP, and I Don't filter anything, so I don't need to do it, but have done it the other way (Running X sessions off a VPS here to browse... LOL)

When we get bored, we redirect the sales guys computers to various places. and do fun stuff like swap Fox news and huffington posts (it gets very political between them, so it is fun to watch .)
