I have a Major Havoc conversion pcb that a fellow KLOV'er is repairing. He got it working and playing again but there's something strange going on with it. The MH logo in the attract mode is all red rather than a yellow outline with red on the inside. It looks the same on his monitor as well as mine, so it isn't a monitor issue. I did some looking around online and came across this video with the same issue:

And in the process of repairing my pcb, he received another that is doing the same thing. He noticed that the rom versions are the same between the two pcbs. Was there a rom version with this all red logo or is something else wrong with these pcbs? I attached a pic of the roms from my board.

The colors in that video looked pretty messed up, compared to MAME at least. Can't speak to your monitor, but look at the ship's shots (they look red instead of yellow) and all of the whites look very blue.

MH has some nice color bar test screens so you can see if all the RGB signals are getting through. I just repaired one where the 1K resistor in the B circuit (R115) was around 5K so there was only blue or no blue (but no partial blue).

The red vs. yellow is exactly my problem with the attract logo, shots, explosions, etc. But having tried it on two different dialed in monitors, it definitely isn't a monitor issue.

This has me curious. With RGB, yellow is formed by combining red and green. There are some yellow elements in the game that appear just fine (like some of the text in the attract mode) but I'm wondering if the yellow that isn't working uses a partial green (which may not be working) rather than full green, causing only the red to appear? Could I have the same issue with G that you had with B?

Maybe - that's what makes that screen of self-test so helpful. Here's a good shot:

and here's the same screen with blue outta whack:

Forgive the keystoning since I took the picture from above. What's interesting is the effect on the bottom row where colors are combined. You can also see the red on my monitor might be a little high since more bars appear compared to green and blue in the first row as well as red peeking through the upper bars of the combo colors in the middle and bottom rows.

Issue Solved:

Resistors R106, R111 and R117 were 10K from the factory. These need to be changed to 22K.

Schematic Package 1 (First Print) lists the resistors as 10K.

Schematic Package 2 (Second Print) lists the resistors as 22K.

I have not found any documentation, supplement etc. that notes these changes.

Big thanks to Douglasgb and Karmann! Now I need to see a therapist.

Big thanks to Mikerk for solving this mystery!

Douglasgb will confirm if a Tollian Web has 10K or 22K...

blkdog7 - next time you have Owen on the show, can you run this by him again now that we have it fixed? I'm curious to see if he remembers anything about this issue from BITD. I'm guessing it was a running change of some sort.

Did anyone verify this change on the different boards. I'm looking at mine (has the 10K) and I have the red outline of the major havoc title screen.

I have four conversion boards (CK207 thru CK977) and they are all 10K.
My dedicated board (UR205) also has 10K resistors at R106, R111 and R117.

Anyone with later serials?

For reference, mine is CK85. I would say that my board doesn't produce the same results as the OP, but the outline of Major Havoc title and the shots are more orange than yellow. Could just be tuning required.
