Major Havoc cabaret

awesome design and beautiful cabinet...

for the square hole... if you can predrill you can use a nibbler to square out the hole (and then a file probably to make it nice)

there are different types of manual ones, some create a curled chip and some break a chip with each "nibble"

here's the first one that came up on google, but do your research because i don't know much about them or anything about this one:

good luck and nice work

It took me a long time to figure out the best way to cut the square hole. I ended up buying a used green lee square hole punch on eBay. This allowed me to cut the four corners pretty square and then a jig saw and files cleaned up the rest. Work, kids and more water/electrical issues in the basement have kept me from wiring it up. I will finish it though. Here's a pic of my progress. Thanks to Rich at this old game for the awesome job on the custom artwork package. The button and roller layout was based on a tracing I did of the dedicated cab cp, so it should play well.

I think the project looks fantastic and it was a cool idea. To ease your wiring pain, I would have suggested simply buying Joe's Space Duel to Major Havoc conversion complete wiring harness. With that, you could have simply plugged in one of my BXMHCSD boards to provide the much needed pincushion correction circuitry. Without correction, the triangular launch tube graphics will have very bowed lines instead of straight lines. Obviously, all graphics would be affected the same way but the initial ship launch is I think the most obvious.

Also, again optional but I think it looks cool, is the plug-in addition of my BXTLC which I designed specifically for my SD to MH conversion machine.

Sorry if this comes off like I'm just trying to sell you things, I'm really not. I'm just throwing the options out there. I have these items on my machine and I think they add value to the project. Your project is certainly worth any extra bits that you could possibly think of.

Oh, just one more thing, I think your machine would look 10x better (assuming that's even possible!) with so-called black glass which is "greylite 14". It can be custom cut to the desired size by most glass suppliers and would cost you about $90 or so. It would look super on your cab.

I was planning to use my MH to Tempest conversion board and a tempest harness. I had the stuff on hand. The glass is darker than it looks in the picture, but not as dark as I had hoped it would be. Once the bezel cardboard is in place, if it still looks light I may take your suggestion.

As a Major Havoc enthusiast, I for one love the border on the side art. I think that's they way I want to go if I build a conversion Havoc in either a Tempest or Space Duel cab. I have referenced this thread a few times in others. :)

Dont you have a real Havoc?:)

Seriously Rich should make this art kit avaliable. I might give this a
go. I'm sure dptwiz's back could survive building one more mini:)

I love it! Awesome job. I can't wait to see how you make the cardboard bezel.

I was hoping to have a similar one at Vidiot for a Day last year Tighe but Rich would never really respond to me asking about printing out the artwork. After waiting a decent amount of time I ended up just selling the Tempest cabaret and all the Major Havoc stuff instead and moved on(Tempest just didn't get played anymore).

I *LOVE* what Chris came up with for the artwork... imho it is perfect! Awesome project indeed!!! :beerchug:
