I found a note to myself... and I'm assuming I need to buy this part...

"big resistor next to the 5 volt register"

... is that enough info for someone to know what the hell this is?

I can't for the life of me remember what this is.

help!

Is it the big resistor on the 5v section of an AR-II? The one in the top right corner of the pic.

Don't think that's it...

Maybe it the 3 resistor, combined resistor... I think we ran into that last week.

If you don't know what the "big resistor next to the 5 volt register" is, then you shouldn't be in this hobby...

:D

Yeah, I saw this post earlier and was thinking the same thing (as long as 'register' meant 'regulator').

R5 on the Atari AR's is 2.7 ohm, 1W. They aren't something that typically goes bad, though I think I've seen one fail once. If that resistor is bad, you've probably got to order other AR parts as well.

Its the small gray thing next to the shiny metal thing next to the black plastic thing with all the little legs on it. But be careful not to shock yourself on the other black thing with the red wire coming out of it.

lol @ OregonPacman thx for the help!! ;)

ok... figured it out with the help of Hatrick:

"Ah, now it makes sense. You must be talking about the the big resistor on the Atari basketball pcb. I think you were going to research if that resistor getting mega hot is normal and if we should put a fan on it or something."
