Is anyone here the owner of a Magic Worm by Sidam ?

As the name indicates it's a Centipede bootleg. Unlike other Centi bootlegs (Caterpillar) this is NOT joystick controlled but track-ball.

I'm looking for schematics or at least pin-out info.
Got a PCB and it would be cool to run it in my Centi cab for a change....

I found this very nice video about it:

Does anybody recognize the guy, or maybe he is on KLOV forum ?

I like that it has a recessed panel (it slopes towards the screen). It's not as steep as my Asterock CP but still....and I think it's a VERY good set-up game play wise. It's more comfortable.

Anyway, any info appreciated.

Here's at least the flyer:

I think I have a PCB, though it could be a different bootleg (no onscreeen evidence towards title or manufacturer, at least it has different graphics than Centipede).
Mine has the same layout and pinout than Centipede, do you have a pic of your PCB?
BTW, even original Centipede PCBs support Joysticks, it's just not officially documented.

That looks pretty sweet! I'd like to try out one of those reverse-sloped control panels sometime. It does look like it could be more comfortable.

I own the one pictured on KLOV, not working...not sure if I care anymore to get it working, I may just MAME it...the way it is though, leave it for SP trackball games.

OK ! Regretfully when I click on the link to the PCB image I get a pic of a cocktail that is standing next to the Magic Worm, I feel there's a wrong link here ?

Anyway, can you tell me if the cab harness has two or one connector for the PCB ?

I think it's a great looking cabinet even if it's not really "themed".

Here's a picture of the PCB I've got. There is no Sidam mark on it (like there is on my Asterock PCB) so, this might be a bootleg of a bootleg :p. The EPROMS are labeled MWx.

There's only a single connector on my PCB from what I recall, I tore everything out and boxed it up for the time being, I'll have to dig the board out and get a picture of it.
Pretty sure my board is a much darker green than that as well, I could be wrong though...and that second connector could be for the controls. I haven't looked at the stuff in well over a year.

Yeah that video shows only one connector as well. I don't even recall if Centipede actually has two on the harness (Jeez, I'm getting old)....

I'll check the Centi pin-outs...

The smaller connector is used for monitor and sound connections so it has to be there on Centi...

If the Magic Worm cab doesn't use it it must have a different pin-out BUT this bootleg board could actually have an original Centi pin-out....

I could just drop it into my Centi of course, but I don't want to create unnecessary fire-works :)

You could find out the pinout by checking against the known pinout of a chip (an Eprom e.g.). This way you should find the voltages and GND at the PCBs connector and then you could check against the Centipede pinout.

Didn't check, just took a quick glance at them. But that's an interesting question, I'll take a look and a pic when I'm back home from work.
But AFAIK the sound is different to orig. Centi, I guess they did that part from scratch (graphics are different anyway).

So, here's a pic of one of my Centipede boots (right) in comparison to an original PCB (left), the layout is pretty much the same.

Instead of Pokey it uses a little daughterboard. All the writing on the chips is scratched out. I wonder if you could just replace it with a Pokey?

Graphics look different to Centipede (sorry, couldn't take a better pic)

I read out a few Roms but none matched any of the Centipede bootlegs in MAME (I hope the dumping mafia doesn't read this ), so I don't have a clue what I got here, no markings on the PCB, no title or copyright notice onscreen, nada.
