So last week it was announced that Playstation official magazine would cease publication. Today, announcements were made for the end of PSM3 and Xbox World (UK).

Any bets on what other mags will be dead by this time next year?

First Nintendo Power, then Playstation...

I have no idea what's next, but if the trend follows the big three it would be Official Xbox Magazine.

I haven't subscribed to anything for a while now, other than the "free" subscription from Game Stop that comes with their card.

Game Informer is like the second largest circulated magazine in America, second only to AARP. Love it or hate it, it's probably the only game magazine that will be around for sure. I haven't read it in years, but I remember enjoying it. Probably before Gamestop owned it though.

Yeah, I loved GI back in the day. My first issue had MKII as the cover story or whatever. Good times. I haven't bought one in years, so no clue what it's like now.

It's probably only ever been as popular as it was/is because they pushed it so much and gave you a pretty good deal on subscriptions when you bought other stuff.

As much as I liked the resurfacing of EGM, it's been pretty bleh. I might be in the minority here, but I hate the articles they use to focus on a game designer. They're like 10 pages long, and then they have maybe a small blurb for the next high profile game. Sorry but I'd rather read about the new Mario/Halo/Zelda/Whatever than read about how much pac-man influenced Cliff Blezinsky and his team of programmers.

Again, might only bug me, but still.

Gotta agree on this one.

Also don't care for the articles out there about "how the industry is changing" and all the opinion stuff about the current state of things.

Focus on the games. That's all we really need.

They can't - if they focus on the current and upcoming games, they are no match for the web sites. Print magazines takes weeks or months to get from writing to printed page on a newstand. Web sites take minutes, or hours at worst. So the magazines need to try to do some kind of reporting that can't be scooped, and that leads to more things like developer interviews and the like. But the staff at most of these magazines doesn't have the first clue how to do real, interesting pieces, so they come out boring and/or stupid. I had an EGM subscription back when they gave away subscriptions for a while. I cancelled it because the writing was what I'd expect of a bunch of under-educated 18 year olds.
