Mad Planet owners or Gottlieb wizards (do you know what this is)

I just gave birth to a Mad Panets tonight. It was converted into some samuri game when I got it. It took a long time and lots of posting, but was finally able to get all the parts I needed from two fellow members on here. I put it all together tonight and was very shock to see it actual come up and work. The only problem is I'm getting these graphic glitches in some of the background and players scores at the top. Does anyone no if the is just a rom and if so which ones or does it look like a board problem.

Anyone have this issue or close to it that can point me in the right direction?

No wish I did. I dont think anyone has a Mad Planets in my state or within driving distance to test a board. I was hoping to see if it might be a bad ram or rom that I can replace myself before sending it out to be repaired

It probably is a bad ram or rom. You might as well start by replacing all of the video ram to see if that helps.

I'm sure Mark will be by sometime soon to be more specific, but as a general rule, cleaning and resocketing chips is a good place to start...

Pulling and verifying all the roms would be a good place to start.

It's most likely to be the background RAMs. Swap out the two RAMs at E7 and E10-11.
They're usually mostek 4118's or 4801's and suffer from bad oxidization and leg rot.
You can swap in a 2016 or 6116 and IIRC it's got to be 200ns or better.

Well I just tried to replace those two with two that were in my Qbert board and got no difference. Then I started to change out chips that were the same on my Qbert board and after I put one of the original ones back in the Mad Planets board, BAM! Its now working. Not sure which one it was though. The weird thing is that I took every chip out, cleaned then and put them back in and got not change. Thanks for having me revist the board again or I probably would have just sent the board off to get repaired on Monday.

Is it supposed to have those sprites in the background of the HS table? Glad to see you got it working. I have your mad planets sound board repaired and will ship it out to you on monday.

Yeah it suppose to be little planets or stars of some sort. Yeah I'm very happy now, this was the only game in my collection that wasn't working. Now everything is working (that is until I decide to turn on a game that I haven't turn on in awhile (L.o.l). Time to install the cpo now, my favorite thing to do (NOT!).

MP has an interesting bug... If you boot the game into test mode then turn off test and let the game run normally, the stars in the background don't show up (!) If you coin and start a game it's starless ;) Looks really odd, I thought there was something wrong with my board the first time I saw this.
