Machine Bride of PinBot sound problem - help me start troubleshooting?

My beloved Machine Bride of PinBot has developed a sound problem. I've
never done any pin troubleshooting before and was hoping for some
pointers on where to start looking. I've got a video (23 megs, sorry)
at http://arcadecontrols.com/BOP/DSCN1812.MOV that shows the problem.
Machine seems to boot up OK, but has a horrible arcing sound that
turns into a stuttering popping sound. Sounds like a tesla coil! Any
suggestions on where to start troubleshooting?

Thanks!

Pull the Translite, and chack all of the connections on the sound card to start. Also watch for arcing and sparking inside the head.

Thanks! Will do. You thinking that the rotating head may have pulled something loose?

No arcing or sparking that I saw. Slight burnt smell in the main cabinet but no visibly scorched components that I could see. Video of the boards behind the translite while operating and hearing the sound http://arcadecontrols.com/BOP/DSCN1819.MOV (smaller video this time).

Scorched connector on junction J-120, which is an illumination circuit on the power board. Part of the body on the translite doesn't light up, presumably related to this scorched J-120, but presumably not related to my sound issue.

Verified good connection on all the sound board connectors. Verified all fuses I could find.

Any other thoughts? Much appreciated :)

Two things.

IIRC J-120 & J-121? are for the GI (general illumination) circuits and they almost always burn up. You will need to replace both the connectors and the headers that they attach to on the board.

It appears from your video that the sound issue is on the cpu board. The da-da-da-da-da is in sync with the yellow led. Check out http://www.pinrepair.com/wpc/index.htmhttp://www.marvin3m.com for testing procedures for the game.

After doing some reading, the source of your sound issue may be the LM1875 on the sound board or the caps in that circuit.

There is also another connector in the GI circuit that will need to be changed, IIRC it is J115.

Lots of good reading at the link I posted, with many things for you to try and test.
