I was just doing some final adjustments & tweaks to the M5000 monitor in @CarrieZ's Exidy Circus. Picture looks great, but I can't quite get the image centered horizontally. Does anyone know if there's a way to adjust the horizontal position without adjusting the H.hold/Osc coil? I read through the manual thoroughly, did some searching here, and there doesn't seem to be any other horizontal adjustments other than the width coil and H. hold/OSC coil. I can get the picture centered using the H.hold/osc coil but then the top text begins to skew as is typical with too much h.hold adjustment.

I'm guessing there's no other adjustments. The picture looks pretty damn good and I/we can definitely live with it, but just wanted to ask for the sake of my monitor OCD. :)

You can move the entire image without affecting how it looks by turning the centering rings on the CRT neck. There are usually separate horizontal and vertical rings but they interact somewhat.

Oh sweet. I did see the rings you're referring to but had no idea what they were for. I'll have to give it a go. Thanks!

That did the trick. After a good 90 minutes of finesse and tweaking, I got the picture dialed in to where I like it. Thanks @cwilkson for the tip!

The only thing that could be better is the horizontal linearity. The right side of the image is slightly wider than the left. (If you look at the zero under "player two" and compare it with the one under "player one" you'll see that it's slightly wider. Same with the balloons.) I'm guessing there's no way to correct this? Again, not a huge deal and I can live with the picture as it is.

I want to know why I have the only Circus on the planet without blinky lights in the marquee!☹️

The blinky lights aren't original, but I like to think that the designers would have used them if they had been available in 1977. I got mine from Comet Pinball. They are the 455 fast blinking bayonet bulbs in warm white. I'm not usually a fan of LEDs, but I feel like these look natural and appropriate to the game despite not being incandescent bulbs. (It's also nice knowing that my bezel won't get any more toasty on the back than it already is.)

You'd better not mess with it any more.
It looks great now!

Haha well...my OCD got the better of me. Digging through the manual, I discovered that L3 is the horizontal linearity coil, and using my magnet "trick", I was able to get it much much better. Two disc style magnets on top of the coil, did the trick.

Gorgeous. I'd love to find a nice bezel like that. I've thought about restoring/restenciling the control panel, which wouldn't be too hard, but there's no real point if the bezel isn't nice as well. Oh well. For now, it's vintage late 70s/early 80s patina!

And that patina comes straight out of the Outer Limits Arcade

Miss that place, back when it was entirely pitch black (save for the worker booth) with no lighting but the glow of the monitors.

Found this old pic. Guessing this was taken late 70s. I see MusicLand and Stereo 1, so definitely pre Sam Goody era. Wish there were more old documented photos of the mall, but then again, who carried their cameras around back then?
