Just a quick question for all you LW3 owners out there.

Could somepne post a picture of the back of the DMD, or could you tell me if there are one or two Display ROMS on this machine?

Thanks

Mike

The answer is yes.... LOL

You cant do it either way in this game.... You have to cut a jumper on the DMD board to enable the larger single rom setup. Very simple actually. My advice to you based on experience is to use the dual rom setup over the single rom setup. There have been weird display issues with the single rom setup in this particular title (ask me how I know)....

Well that could explain the weird display issues that I had with the new ROMs.

I only removed ROM0, but not ROM1 when I installed the new display ROM. There were weird display issues; the display freezing, strange characters in the adjustment menus, and yes answers that registered as no for the settings.

Thanks, I will look up the schematic, and see where that jumper is located.

It is resistor R11 on the display board. If you clip it to enable the larger single display rom setup and you experience issues, I highly recommend using a two rom setup. I troubleshot a LW3 a few years ago where I was almost pulling my hair out (all voltages good, ribbon cables good, etc..) and it was simply that the single rom setup on that particular driver board revision simply did not work. (It would show garbled info, work sometimes, etc...)

Long time to get a response on this thread, but I thought I would add the informaion that I learned for the database.

If you look at the schematic or board, there will be no notes or markings as to the function of R11. Through the Pinrepair site, I found a link to this Data East service bulletin:

My LW3 was apart for repair/refurb and it finally was put back together this last week. I was running with the old PROMs, since the machine was running with them before the teardown, I did not want to change too many things at once. That was a good thing because there was a cold solder joint issue on the DMD controller card that I had to track down. (note to self: Always look at the last repair on the board first...) Once everything was working fine, I clipped off R11 and installed the one display PROM and the new CPU PROM. Powered it back up and it worked, menus, diagnostics, displays all worked correctly. I have noticed that the defaults from the manual to the new version of PROM are slightly different, but that is to be expected.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
