I am having two issues. First issue is with my right bank of drop targets. One of the targets got stuck so the coil completely overheated and melted everything inside of it. I replaced the coil but it is not working at all now. The targets will not go back up after they have dropped down. Second issue is with my left bumper. It will not turn off it just stays pushed out all the time. I replaced the coil but am still having the same issue.

I need to get these two problems fixed as soon as possible because I am trading the machine for a terminator 2 and desperately need some help.

Thanks in advance :)

Don't count on these being fast easy fixes, just wanted to warn you.
You replaced both the burnt coil and the coil sleeve?

Wires soldered back on to the correct lugs?

Does the coil fire correctly but the targets won't reset? Is the coil still stuck on or not? Can you reset the targets manually?

On the left side of the reset plate there is an adjustment screw.

It's the longer screw with the locking nut on the bottom.

This adjusts the length of throw of the reset plate. You want the length of throw as short as possible, where the tops of the targets still drop all the way to the level of the playfield.

If the reset plate drops down too low, it will bind up instead of resetting, at least that was the problem on my TFTC and that drop target assy. in LAH is the same (both DE).

If you have a locked on coil on the left sling shot, check that the leaf switches are not getting pinched shut all of the time.

You may have a shorted drive transistor on the driver board. That can cause solenoids to lock on. If that's the case, you need to dismount the driver board and replace the bad transistor. There may be an associated pre-driver transistor that will need replacing as well.

I think LW3 is the same Russ. The exploded views are in the schematics.

I'm going to guess that the stuck coil probably fried the transistor.

My guess is as spanks_4 stated, your locked on coil fried a transistor on the CPU. Based on the way DE controls their bumpers on games like LW3, I don't think a stuck leaf switch would lock the pop bumper coil. I'd think it could be a shorted transistor, I think on the CPU. But check the leaf switch for the bumper first just in case.

In summary, it is probably going to take some soldering and unsoldering as well as a few parts. Let us know what you see and if you see any burned spots on the PPB and CPU. For the pop bumper, look at/near Q11 on the CPU. For the drop target coil, look at Q40 on the CPU. Also for the drop target, on the PPB, look at R8, D8, and D16. If you have a multimeter, test the diodes and transistors if you can (unless they look baked.)

i am betting you have board repairs now on the mpu and on the ppb. data east are notorious for taking out transistors, diodes, ressistors and certain pre driver chips when coils burn up.

i had the plunger lane coil fry on mine and it took out all kinds of componenets on both boards including a pi chip.

i can repair your board if its not burned up (trace wise/board wise itself)
