I just got a black widow project, that I'm thinking needs a 6100 overhaul. The guy powered it up at his house and it played blind, no activity from the monitor.. So when I got it home I checked all the plug-in connectors and fired it up.. somewhat literally I got a wavy picture for a few seconds and it suddenly shut down, letting the smoke out of a small resistor on the main PCB.
So now I'm wondering, like many of you have surely wondered in the past, what all should I do to this thing to return it to health? I've read about this LV2000 kit, but a RGVAC search turned up some negative comments and a less-than-unanimous decision on their worth. I've also read that there might be more than one source for this kit.. Are they constructed differently, and is one better than the other? What about price differences? Should this be installed in conjunction with the cap/transistor kits that Bob Roberts sells?
