LV2000 kit: Controversy? Multiple vendors?

Mark,

Give me 20% and I'll put together a website and maintain it for you.

Whatever.

Order from whomever you want, and spend more money if you want. $30 won't even buy a decent meal these days anyway. I shouldn't even be wasting my time building these let alone answering ignorant questions about them.
Well I do beg your pardon........I just asked a question, your decision to answer it or not.
There's for 5 bucks components on there so I think selling them is still interesting for you. You'd sell a lot more with a simple site. I'm interested in buying your stuff but I don't know what you all got there...you're complaining we don't buy your stuff, but if you don't show the world what you are selling.....

B&W vector monitors don't regulate the rails at all... they just use the straight (poorly filtered) rectified voltages coming off the bridge...

That's not true of the g05-801

The revised LV boards have their place. Not what everyone else thinks they are for or accomplish IMHO, but they have their place.

Touche'

801 uses the same bad zener-biased pass-transistor regulator design as the 6100, but at least for the HV versions, the input voltage and output voltages are too high to use 3-terminal IC regulators in place of the zeners.

Hey Mark,

I also sent you a private message putting in an order for an LV6100 if you had one for sale, and haven't heard back from you. I figured you were busy or just ignoring the PMs again. I'd still like to buy one off of you for my Tempest.

I hope you still have some available and are willing to sell one to me

yoalp out.

Ok.. So if I buy Mark's voltage regulator kit, which cap kit/parts kit/etc from Bob should I buy to go with it? It looks like he has several levels of parts kits for the 6100.

Most of the 'extra parts' kit will go unused... just get the standard cap kit (with chassis transistors -- much cheaper with the kit than alone, and they're good to have around as spares).

If it matters Ide like to buy from a member rather than others...I learned about Chad here and sent him some work...Can we get a member vedors page set up=== if there is not one already....If there is one YES I am a retard and have not seen it...I just look at 3 or 4 pf the pages here...I have a dead omega race on the way and will need parts ....See me MATT

Many of us buy our parts from a fella named Bob Roberts. Google "Big Bear Bob Roberts" and you'll find his website. He's a real good guy to deal with, and he'll ship your order out in advance of receiving your payment!

Yes I have used him also...Lets not forget Jbuck also...That's why a list would be helpful...They give us their help with problems.. We should buy our stuff from them when possible....Just my .02....We have the same type of system on motorcycle sites I belong to....They help us,We help them kinda thing....

it was mentioned earlier in this thread, there should be a list of all the cool stuff that m. spaeth has come up with!

I just bought one of Mark's voltage regulator boards. Looks nice, and easy to maintain. This may be a stupid question, but I didn't see instructions anywhere for how/where to install it. Does such a document exist?

I think you do it the same way as the LV2000. I think a link was posted earlier in the thread to the site of the guy who makes the LV2000's, and you'll find instructions there.

Otherwise, do a google search for LV2000 and you should find it pretty quickly...

My complaint about the current version of the LV2000 (sold at AS and elsewhere) is that the surface mount diodes used on them seem to fail more often than through-hole components, and since most of the components are surface mount, the board is a throw-away for people who don't have the tools (or the parts) to repair the board.

I've used both versions of the LV2000 as well as Mark's LV6100, and I prefer Mark's as well.

That said, when (not if) a diode fails on the SMD version of the LV2K, it's not impossible to replace it with a standard through-hole diode... just takes a little creativity and a steady hand.
