Installed a cap kit and LV2000 on my 6100 about a year ago. One day I had my Tempest on and could smell something burning. Took out the monitor this weekend and discovered this:

What could have caused this? Can I repair the LV2000 or am I better off just buying a replacement?

Thanks,

Steve

Always good to see the "competition" all burned up ;)

You could try to fix it, but the SMD parts and questionable soldering are one of the issues with those boards. (It's hard to drop down parts w/ integrated heat sinks without a real reflow).

Not long ago, I ordered one for a friend, and he had this happen. Jeff replaced it for free. As I had a ver 1.5 (with thru-hole parts) on my chassis, I pulled it and put it on my friend's chassis and test it in my cab. The same transistor ran a little warm (even though it worked fine on my chassis). I let it run a couple days and it ran fine. Gave it back to my buddy, he put it in his Tempest, and it immediately burned up that transistor again.

My chassis did not have this issue with the same LV2000, so I assume that he has a further issue on his deflection/HV boards, and/or a power brick issue...

Is there anything you recommend I look at and/or test on my deflection/HV board and power brick that would have caused the transistor on my LV2000 to burn up? Just want to be sure that I don't have any other issues contributing to the problem. Thanks!

Where can I buy your product so I don't have to buy the competition ? ;)

This has happened to me twice. But believed, and still think it has something to do with my deflection board. When first powering on the monitor it works fine, and the picture looks great, but the LV2000, on that one side starts to smoke and eventually dies. When I check the voltages, the left side is correct but the right is high and not adjustable. Is there someone here that can just repair this thing for me? Its just over my head, and I'm two LV2000s and a cap kit +extra parts into this already.
