My Lunar Lander World record was verifed by Twin Galaxies on 6/27/10

I offically beat the World Record at the 2010 Northwest Pinball and Gameroom Show. The Score there was 1705. Beating Dave Nelsons 7 year old record. After beating the record my goal changed to beat 2000. I talked this over with Walter Day at the show, and this will not be easy. The Twin Galaxies settings for Lunar Lander only gives you 750 units of fuel, when your fuel is gone its over.

A week after the Seattle Show I broke the record again, at home. 1775 that is the Current World Record.

2000 is the goal now. 2020 has been done on Mame. Mame is easier to control fuel usage. I have been taping a few hours a night trying to reach the mark. Lunar Lander is a random game. The PCB picks all the Bonus landing spots randomly. You can play for hours or days sometimes, before a good set of landing spots are given.

I was playing last night. Started at 12:00am. I played for until my tape ran out. started the tape over. about 1:50 in the morning it happened. I got a great set of landing spots and nailed all the landings. I did not beat 2000, but I was very happy with 1925!! I went over to the camera to zoom in on the score and the camera was off!! The Battery died!!! I hit rewind and found that the camera had shut off 7 minutes before my 1925 point game.

Frustrated it was time to rewind the tape and start recording again. I knew the odds were not in favor of getting good patterns like I did on the 1925 game. I have played 1,000's of games prepairing for the Seattle Show, and have not seen patterns that good.

I started filming again, I figured I would play until 3 am. I thought it would be cool to break the record on the Fourth of July. I played for around 1 hour and 15 minutes. I was having a good game, but I came in too hot on one of my landings. I hard landed and got 75 points, instead of 250. I was going to abort the game and start over, but decided to play on. The rest of the game was one prime spot after another, I had a chance. I tied my record of 1775, and had 160 units of fuel left. I nailed a X4 landing spot for 1975 points!! I had enough fuel to crash for another 5 points.

Final score and new world record 1980!!! If I had not hard landed I would have had 2155:eek:

Im happy with 1980 set this on the 4th of July. I have my sights on 2000, and will keep trying. Here are a few screen shots!!

Happy 4th everyone!!

Wow - nice work! Congratulations.

I'd love to see video of this; are you gonna post it?

That is huge, congratulations! Pretty amazing dedication there.

I'm far from a record setter, but I've found that sometimes those games that seem like they're going in the crapper, turn out to be the best scores.

That is awesome Dan. You have some serious skill. I would love to see some footage of your attempts.

Congrats on the score. I was fortunate enough to pick up a really nice LL control panel the other month and have been toying with the thought of converting an Asteroids. One of these days maybe...
:)

That was my original plan to convert a Asteroids. Then I found out Blinddog had a Asteroids in a lunar lander cab. So we Swapped cabs.

I just cleared 2000 on tron and took over the high score on my machine :)

I think it's time to call NASA and see if they're looking for pilots!
