I just noticed the rubber bumpers in my original Lunar Lander thruster have crumbled up and fell apart.
Anyone know what the diameter should be? I can measure the pin for the hole size and the bracket for the width but the diameter would be a crap shoot.
Thanks

I did some measuring and the pin appears to be 1/4 inch and the space between the bracket is 7/8 inch so wile looking at this picture I stole from Ram Controls site of all the bumpers that cant be had I resized the picture so the hole was 1/4 inch and it looks like the diameter is 3/4 inch
So 7/8" long ,3/4" diameter with a 1/4" hole though the middle
Can any one confirm this?
IF not I guess I'll PM Dr. Morbis
Thanks

Check out McMaster-Carr item #8637K111
It comes in 6" pieces; will have to cut to length.
They have numerous options at 0.75" OD, 0.25" ID.
If someone has access to a durometer, and could provide the hardness of the original, a better selection could be made. (or send me one and I can measure the Shore A hardness).

Wow, Thanks, if I have guessed the correct measurements then this would be perfect
I do have one local place I can try, Hampton Rubber which is close by but I was trying to lock down the correct measurements.:)

I pulled up the LL manual. It says in there that the material is Neoprene. (No indication of the hardness). The E-clips for the pin they mount on say they're for a 1/4" shaft, so that agrees with your estimate of the ID. If you scaled the other dimensions off of the photograph... you're golden (you should be able to measure the gap on your bracket to verify the 7/8"). I'd say the 75A hardness of the McMaster mat'l is a good starting point. It'll likely cut better with an abrasive cutter (vice sharp teeth).

Yea I measured my Thruster bracket and it's 7/8" and the pin is definitely 1/4" so I am 99% sure the diameter is 3/4" So that's what I am going with. If I cant find it local I'll place an order with McMaster-Carr as it sounds like a perfect match just cut to fit.
Thanks

I decided to order the 6" piece of Neoprene from McMaster-Carr item #8637K111 as it was only $2.16. The only thing I did not like about ordering their was they don't tell you how much the shipping and tax will be and only offer UPS ground shipping. I placed the order anyway yesterday 3/28/11 at 5:36 PM and today it showed up on my front porch and the packing slip still did not include the shipping cost. Guess I'll have to wait till I get my credit card bill to find out the total damage but it's done now.
The piece of Neoprene looks perfect, it's hard yet not to hard and cut easily with a new single edge razorblade. Only took 5 minuets to cut and install. Works like a champ. Here's a few pictures.
Thanks Darren for the tip.

That's awesome, Sam. Great pics. Glad it worked out well for you. The stiffness of the material OK in service?

I wish I were back up in Hampton Roads... thinking about it has me wanting some Doumar's...

Yea plenty hard and dampens nice even if you slap it hard from full thrust.
Yes Doumar's :) Mr. Doumar still makes the ice cream cones fresh every mooring on the original hand made cone machine. I believe they still make the burgers fresh and make their own BBQ also. Great place to eat.
Might have to make a trip to Norfolk.

This should be the last update.
I was a little concerned about how much McMaster-Carr was going to charge me for shipping as the cost was not listed at the time I placed the order. I received the receipt in the mail today and was pleasantly surprised to see they only charged me $4.43 for shipping so the total cost for 6 inches of Neoprene was $6.59 which is enough to make 3 sets of bumpers. Not bad.:D

Yeah, McMaster is awesome. That reminds me, I need to order some hard-to-find #6-32 1/4 across-flats nuts from them...

I think they sell that Neoprene in longer lengths, too. You could order 6 or 8 feet of it, and go into business selling Lunar Lander bumber reproductions :) Look out RAM Controls...

Sam, Put me down for 2 sets, if your going to make them.. Only need 1, but im a hoarder:)

Well I hadn't plained on making a bunch. I just needed 2 sets, one for mine and one for my friends Lunar Lander so I only ordered a 6" piece but that should leave me with an extra set but I haven't cut them yet. So when I do I'll PM you for your address and send them your way. I need to get my buddy's LL put back together anyway. If theirs a big demand I could place another order and make a few sets.
