Lunar Lander side art?

Emailed Darin about it and it looks like it will be march/april....

Done from the original Atari films !!

Now we still need marquees If I am not mistaken....

Rich, something I noticed......been looking at your repro of the LL side art and as much as LL original sides as possible on the web, but I think theres something wrong with the colors of the rectangles on the top sphere.... i see a darkish green color on some of those blocks on all the pics I could find. Those blocks are blue on your picture...

There is ONE exception though...the original US flyer. On that machine there seems to be no green.....

So....could it be you have a differnet film set ?

Another thing I noticed is that there seems to be a white line around the lower sphere where I don't see that any of the original sides....

Yeah Debaz Pmd me some pics too
Well theres obviously more than one revision here to LL
To get "greeen" Atari almost always screened yellow over blue.
there is no film for "green" and the yellow and blues dont cross in these films.
Heres the shots Debaz sent and Id asumme this is his vecotred version
which is also missing a "green" :D

Theres also some smaller differences in the sequence of these blocks of color as well

Ill have to pull out the films and look at the dates and revision #/letter if any on this set.
I guess the real question is whats the morre common?

on a side note Atari made a little boo boo I disciovered that Id thought Id share
This art is mostly all drawn and ruby cut by hand. and from the pics above youll see 3 circles in the lower right that shouldve been filled RED.

So the films are marked which PMS color to screen and in what order.
So in this case weve color color 3 screened RED.

Then color 4 Blue-a pic of the screen setup before screening the blue

So once the blue is printed it completely covers the red
but when printed in a different order or had they cut the blue art properly it wouldve looked something like this
LLwelldone3.jpg

as far as the white outline goes previosly mentioned by Level42
my guess something else that was fixed on a later revision
as the black outline even by iteslef was thick enough to cever the white base

ok weird looking back at these pics again noticed something
on the screen for the blue, the blue prints over the yellow.
that would indicate to me they were marked in the wrong order.
Yellow is more Transparent then the blue and if the order was reversed
it wouldve given you a green
whether it was the exact green or not I couldnt tell you.

Simalr issues were had on the Quantum SideArt but the green there was more obvious

Rich, If you need some high Rez pics of the Green, and the other area where you said had a problem with the Red let me know.. One of my machines has very nice original non faded sideart..

Thanks for correcting those color issues..:D

I cant wait to get some of these in hand.. I have 2 extra Lunar Landers that will appreciate your work:cool:

its not a problem with the red unless you have a pic of orginal sideart Atari corrected this mistake. I was just pointing out where the may have messed up :D

fixing the green is a different story entirely

Looks like we're going back to the drawing board on this one.
to make these corrections.
Ill continue to post updates as I porgress.
We cant fix everything there are som other subtle differences as well. look at the sequence of the squares lower right on our version also has orange
in the far lower left of the sequence.

shit, i'll buy the dicked up art at a discount! hook me up :D

Yeah, I'd gladly take a reject piece as well. One side of my Asteroids is all scratched up... so I thought it might be cool to slap some Lunar Lander artwork on there, now that I have the A/AD/LL multi kit. :)

Hey Rich,

Maybe these pics are helpfull ?

Taken by Muerto as per my request and posted on the DLF forum:

Original thread here: http://www.dragonslairfans.com/smfor/index.php?topic=3610.msg50621#msg50621

It clearly shows how dark the green is/can be. This easily explains why it may have looked like black on some pictures.

Notice the aligning defects, maybe these give a clue about the screening order ?

No idea really, but thought I'd let you know anyway.....

Thanks for posting Andre
Yeah problem has been corrected and yeah the regestration overall is/was pretty tuff
in not only that area but also look at the lander.
That green may also vary to some degree on these cabs since its a "build color"

Ive seen on other Atari pieces the similar issues of green particalr where its different/varies.
regestration also thats what makes screened art so unique NO 2 pieces are identical.

The new side art and the marquees are back in production!!
and hopefully regestration and colors are more consistant with our version :D

any updates on the Lunar Lander sideart.. Looks like I can get a good inkjet version, but will hold out for screened if this is going to happen:) Are the messed up sets for sale?

Also is there a update on the Lunar Lander marquees?? :)

The LL main harnesses are near completion and I need to start working on my 2 project landers :)

The "bad" thing about this hole story is that I'm not even going to need LL side-art anymore.

I was before because I was going to convert an empty Asteroids shell to LL.....but than I found a LL......

Makes me feel a bit embarrassed really....

On the other hand it's good to have things perfect before disappointed customers.

My LL has the green too...

About the marquees: I received an original marquee from CKONG for my LL (because mine was missing, a very nice gift indeed) and it was plexi not glass. Not sure if there were two version made BITD ?

Sorry for the seemingly never-ending delays on this.

Rich assured me by the end of July the marquees and the side art will be in my hands. Maybe he can chime in. I hate to keep asking him everytime we talk.
