Question, just finishing my restore, and noticed these were produced, mine does not work, it did, but doent light up at the moment, were these problematic, sorry Im late to the game, but why reproduce, they seem to be pretty simple in design, im guessing these fail a lot? I may need one of these possibly?

We reproduced them because they are impossible to find.. I seached for a few years for one for the 2nd machine I was building.. I dont think the originals had a high fail rate.. If none of your lights are working, I woud resolder connector pins. If its just one light not working reflow the socket or replace the socket. Im running real low on these so If you dont get yours going and you need one let me know soon...

Mine was running LEDs when I sold it. ;-)

In answer to why I ran the boards, the short answer is these things tend to get lots and several folks needed them. Operators store broken cabs for years in various states of disassembly and when the games are finally sold they are not always complete.

Lucky for Lunar Lander that the vector monitor was compatible with the more common asteroids and so was the cab. The panel/thruster, lamp pcb and game pcb are the only "unique" items to the game. Replacement art is easy enough to come by these days too.

Cant believe you sold it!! Thought you were going to beat my record on it;)

I did.... I hacked the rom to offer up 50x points and it only required 2 or 3 landings to break your record. No need for a marathon session when you can work smarter rather than harder. ;-)

Dam why didnt I think of that, would have saved me thousands of games and alot of minidv tapes;)

I normally dont like price policing, and this is just an open and fair question:
Why does a simple PCB with a handful of transistors and bulbs and one connector have to cost 110 dollar ?? Compared to fi several multi-kits or FI Jrok's Multi-Williams FPGA board which require a lot of development time and a lot of costly parts this seems like a very steep price.

A piece of vero-board with some wiring will do just as fine I think, or am I missing something here ?

Thats a fair question. Prob the main reason they cost more was the size of the run, only 20 were made. Also the size of the board. I could have got boards cheaper, if I had the maker run 50 or 100, but the demand was not there for a large run. Sure you can make a cheap homemade version,I do know one person who did make a homemade one, but he ended up buying one of these too :) These boards are almost exactly the same as the originals, our goal was to reproduce them as close to original as possible, so they were a drop in replacement. The boards are not small, like the Jrok, pacman multi ect. you could make 3 or 4 out of 1 of those, out of 1 these boards. We could not make these boards smaller, or the lights would not line up under the mission plexi.

I have not even broke even on this run, but im close. This was never done as a money making venture, I needed a few boards, so I had them made. Some got the boards cheaper in a presale to help fund the project. Almost every board has been sold.. and no one has complained about price :)

Even the originals are not cheap.. Last original board I saw sell on ebay a few years ago went for around $150- $170 IIRC...

OK so the price has to be in the smaller run especailly, which figures. Jrok sold a lot more than 20....

Definitly not saying you overcharged or something, a small run means high costs. The larger PCB doesnt help either Im sure. and if you have had them populated by a company that sure explains it even more.

It was just a feeling because its so simple electronically. Making this on Vero board is also a lot of work of course and plug and play is sure worth some extra money.

About labor and material being cheaper here ? No way !!! Definitly more expensive than in the US.

Yea I cant remember what the price difference was for 50 boards, but it was alot cheaper, I considered doing 50, but then I would be sitting on 30 extra boards.. Yea if you make one on a vero board, it should work fine.. No one would be able to tell with it mounted under the panel.. I thought about doing that for the few I needed, but I wanted it to look original..:) If your thinking about making a homemade one, send me a PM.. I will tell you who you can talk to that made one, maybe he can help..

You are probably right Dez, but Real-Life tells me my arcade budget is zero atm...

In december, right after even barely getting the idea to reconvert a converted Asteroids into a LL, I happend to find (and bought) a repro Thruster, a working PCB and a bare LL repro control panel. Although I was extremely glad that I found all those so quickly it did blow a hole in my arcade budget, even though I still was lucky with the prices for all of those...

Also, this is a long term project for me. Atm I have to start actually using/installing all the stuff that I bought previously for a good number of my other cabs....
