I was on a mission last night to beat my Lunar Lander World Record... Played and recorded for about 3 hours. The last game I played I ran out of fuel about a 8th of a inch from the landing site, and hard landed.. I was about 15 units of fuel away from a new World Record.. For those of you that know this game, 15 units is just one small boost on the thruster...:eek:

Ok looks like round 2 is coming later today...:D

This is embarassing to admit but I didn't even know high scores were possible in Lunar Lander. I loved it back in the day, one of my favorite games of the era, but I always thought it just ate quarters, I didn't know you could replentish fuel any other way.

I just had a look on Google and KLOV's own entry for it for more info on how to play for long stretches (other than just throwing more quarters in) and came up with nothing.

Can any of you tell me how a high score is possible on Lunar Lander other than just tossing in a thousand quarters? Got any techniques you can share?

I'm from NASA, we have been trying to contact you for a long time.
We need you for a manned lander mission to Mars.
The mission entails landing a craft in steep canyons.
Small flat areas have been mapped by geosynchronous sats that may or may not be suitable for landing.
The trip will take six years, but we have confidence in your abilities.

No you cant add quarters.. You get 750 units of fuel.. When its gone game over.. techniques conserve fuel and dont crash:D

Here are the current top 5 scores..

1.. Me 2075

2.. David Nelson 1525

3.. Cameron Feltner 1375

4.. Donald Hayes 1260

5.. Jason Cram 1175

8-Toggle Dip Switch On Lunar Lander PCB (At P8)
1-5 = ON
6 = OFF/UNUSED
7 = ON
8 = OFF
Note: The above Dip Switches, are not only the FACTORY DEFAULT settings, but are also the correct Twin Galaxies Tournament Settings for this title and will provide the following settings;
English Instructions
750 Fuel units Per Coin

you would need a starship to hold that many games!

Oh okay well that's a relief to know I'm not missing anything.

But wait ..... you said ....

Played and recorded for about 3 hours.

... now I'm even more confused. So you put in one quarter, got your 750 units of fuel and somehow made that last for three hours??? I'm lucky to survive five minutes on one quarter. Got any video to show how to keep alive? Anything on YouTube?

Pretty close there buddy! It was great watching Walter Day present you with your World Record holder certificate last year at the Seattle Show. Let us know how you make out today.

Oh yes I played and recorded for about 3 hours last night, multiple games were played.. You have to film the inside of your cabinet, dip settings ect.. that takes about 10 minutes.. So after recording all of that, I play until I run out of tape.. once you turn the camera off you have to record the inside of the machine, dips, ect again..

Dan, what hope have us poor LL owners got of getting the world record if you keep beating it mate :D

Why not have a nice game of asteroids or something. I hear that the world record only takes about 2 or 3 days to beat :004_sbiggrin:

Seriously, nice work

Them other names in the top 5 are definitely beatable hey :)

Would love to see your name on the list Dez... Yes the others are beatable.. You might have a little trouble passing David Nelson.. his score stood for 7 years...

you must have alot of patience for this. i land 3 times on 750 units and i am happy!

Having a pre flight smoke and red bull part of my pre flight plan... then at it again:D

Wow, any chance you could put some of your runs on youtube?
My pb is 975, sat on mame, and i know it's not the same ;) - but you must get pretty lucky with the bonus on the tough landing site.??
Is the bonus random, or can you do anything to get it at 5x50 in the "mountains" every time??
