I'd heard something that the Lunar Lander Harness may be the same as an Asteroids harness? Anyone know the truth behind this? Reason being I'm trying to assemble the parts for a Lunar Lander project I'm working on.

Crap, I guess I asked this some, 5 years ago. Was doing some google searches.

Hi Rod

I have done this before, I removed my entire Asteroids harness to copy it, and found there are HUGE Differences.

I ended up making one from scratch (a lunar lander harness), with new plugs and pins and all.

I used the asteroids harness only as a guide as to the lengths basically.

It has been a long and rocky road, and I am not finished yet, the Control panel is giving me the most curry, so to speak.

I wish you all the best, and will help you wherever I can, having done this.

:)

Please note there was once a harness adapter to allow an asteroids to be fitted into a LL cabinet.

BUT the Lunar lander CP plug has 15 pins, and the LL has 24, so you can only convert one way (IE from LL to Ast)

If you convert the other way you need to add lots of control panel wires, between the edge connector and the CP

Okay, well there are primarily 2 things I need yet, the pcb and the harness. So I take it you started completely from scratch building a harness. Wow!
I guess you have to start somewhere though don't you. Any guides for this or just a schematic for LL?

Yes

I made the schematic myself, as there was nothing on the net regarding the LAI version

Here it is
Delete the LAI power supply and insert the Atari version

look in my links below

No links appear. I am interested in building a LL PCB to Asteroids Harness adapter for my test bench.

Thanks!!

Bill

Mmmm, but couldn't that converter still be used to do at least the main things ? Wouldn't be that hard to only have to add the extra wires... ?

Could that adapter be chanced to make it work the other way ?

Yes, The adapter is NOT needed to run a Lunar Lander from an Asteroids Cab, IE: the monitor will show the game.

Other wires can be added for sure

This is an old thread, mine is up and running now, and all problems were overcame

I have a 15 pin and a 9 pin molex plug for the control panel. Just adding, the reason I remade the LL harness from scratch is because I needed the Asteroids harness to put back into an Asteroids cab, so couldn't modify it.

If you have a spare Asteroids harness, go for it, hack away ! :) (Much easier than scratch made for sure)
