Been sitting on CL for awhile...
Located about 35 miles from me, in a smallish town...
He was looking for $500, said it was good shape, not working, but complete...
I offer $400, he waits a day and then accepts...
I go out there and my heart is broken...
He said he would take $300, I drove away with her for $200
I don't freaking need ANOTHER project of this magnitude but what can I do?
;-)

What's the trouble bubble?

Looks decent other than the glass. Does it work? I'd take it for $200 anyday, it's on my list along with a lot of other stuff.

I have never seen one of those in person. So you use levers/joysticks to move a ball around? I don't really know.

You're a better man than I. I think I would've walked after seeing the bottom. That's gotta be swollen to at least 2x size.

Edit: I guess that part is easily replaceable though. The rest doesn't look bad at all.

The glass was disappointing... mainly because it's not easily dealt with. I am not a perfectionist but that's the hardest part to restore and it's in your face the whole time you look at the game.

That said, I don't expect it to work but since I am not familiar with the game, I want to look it over, download the manual and basically check it out thoroughly before trying.

... and yes, for 2 bills it was a fair deal. I just wanted to be sure I will get my money back if I give up on it and have to move it along.

There are some nice videos on youtube showing the game play.

these are fairly easy to fix. cabinet wise, mine was in the same shape. i vaguely remember having a broken piece on the top of one side i had to fix. but i replaced my bottom as well, it was pretty swollen like that. check around - you should be able to find the parts pretty easily, seems like everyone has them...

Funny. first thing I thought when I saw the close up pic of the glass was "that's totally fixable."

A lot of times the belts are shot on those and that's all you need to do.

The ball and belts can both be had at Marcospecialties.com

Good luck. The machine is pretty basic, really. Hopefully the board is good and it's just simple mechanical type issues.

Before you order new belts from Marco, consider this cheaper solution from Bob Roberts: http://arcadecontrols.com/BBBB/coldbeer.html

I haven't tried it so I can't offer any advice as of yet.

Ice Cold Beer Fix

by Bob Roberts

Here's one that comes up every 2 months without fail...where do I get replacement belts for my Ice Cold Beer?

I tried everything under the sun on these type machines in the beginning, and the best replacement I found, that is permanent, can be found at any corner auto parts store & many Wal*Marts & other discount stores. The last one I did myself, was on location about 10 years ago. They were all stretched out & unusable, so knowing the answer I just cut the belt on one side...the barmaid almost passes out...and I ran it across the street to an auto parts store & picked up 2 pieces of windshield washer tubing the same diameter & length as the piece I had cut off, plus a blister pack of 4 plastic ribbed couplers. Walked it back across the street & installed the new ones in about 5 minutes. If memory serves me right, I think I got change back from a five dollar bill. I remember it as being real inexpensive, at the time.

The last time this came up, about 6 weeks ago, I called the location to ask how the machine was holding up...the reply was just fine & never another problem with it. I asked the owner if he had to readjust them any over the years, and he said he hadn't touched it. The reason that this is so permanent, is that if they were to stretch again, you simply pull the union apart & snip off a half inch & put it back together.

I've repaired many of them before that time & many after by proxy here locally. Not as many or as often as in the NG, but at least once a year someone will still call or drop by and ask me for the belts, giving me the opportunity to explain how windshield washer tubing works. I've never had a repeat customer with that complaint.

Funny you should mention that...

Looks like someone already did that on this one.
Must be a good idea after all.
