Lucky & Wild Cabinet.. having second thoughts..Need Your Opinion!!

Hey guys, I believe I posted this in the wrong section before.. I have the opportunity to buy a Lucky & Wild cabinet w/ working monitor steering wheel and good condition cab for $100. Only thing missing is the two guns for it. My plan is to turn the 2 person cabinet into a mame station where I can have drivers set up + light gun games (seems like the cab works for both perfectly) My only issue is...I live in Manhattan NYC hahah meaning I don't really have the room.

I built my own showcase cabinet already that my girlfriend is ok with, but I dont really have the room for a 2 person sit down cab. My alternative is to keep it at my parents place, in the attic or basement as storage, and work on it here and there (hour and 1/2 away and only visit once every few months). The reality is this..I'm probably going to be living in the city for the next 2-3 years at least, and plan to one day move the cabinet to my future house' basement and set up my theater and arcade room down there. So, here I have the opportunity to get a good condition cab w/ working monitor for $100. Its almost like buying a project piece and sticking it in storage for a year or two, except its free to store

So... I need your advice...is it worth getting now at that price (is that a good price) , or should I hold on and wait it out. I'm thinking if its a good deal now, I might as well grab something that's worth it now, and slowly work on it until I move to the burbs. Or, I just wait it out and see what I can get in a few years. I would really prefer to get a Lost World 2 person Cockpit cabinet or the Star Trek or Confidential Mission cabinet, as these are real dedicated 2 person sit down cockpit style cabinets with a giant Monitor. Let me know your opinion!

thanks
Jason

Great deal on the price, and it sounds like a cool project.

However, I'd keep looking if I were you. Even though the cab has two pistol style controllers, you and another friend will be nearly spooning each other while shooting. In my opinion, shooters were meant to be played standing up. There's a natural stance that one goes into while firing a gun (whether it's to look cool or control the aim better who knows). Sitting down while firing never really feels the same.

Also, the steering wheel placed so far to the left for the driver and being crammed tightly into the space next to the gun arm will feel all wrong. No doubt you'll develop "monkey-ass" from sitting on that uncomfortable seat for too long as well.

I've done alot of custom weird things to arcade games, so I'm no stranger to the creative process which is put forth on these projects.

So despite how sweet it would be for you to have one cab that does so much stuff, I'll just say that this is not the right cab for you. This cab was specifically designed for it's game inside. It was meant to be played as a one armed-driving-while-firing-a-pistol-in-the-other-type game.

You're absolute best bet would be to just get a single cockpit driver cab for you're drivers and a stand-up Area 51 style cab for your shooters.

Great points on both man...never thought of it that way. My whole idea was to be able to play drivers by themselves and shooters on their own (never noticed the steering wheel is so far over hmmmm) That being the case..since I need to get new light guns anyways...cant I just get ones with coils and sit back? I plan to get some cushions for the bench :) . I agree that most shooters should be standing up but games like Lost World and Confidential Mission are both sitting..maybe i'm just lazy haha. I'm glad you brought that up though..I'll definitely factor that into my decision.

If you did guns on coils, you might as well install them on the back of the cabinet. Cause you won't be able to play well with coils in your lap.

When I used an old f'd up Gran Prix Star cabinet for my multi use, I decided right away that the light guns were going to be played from behind the two player racing seats. I've got a youtube video floating out there with a slideshow showing it. Go to my homepage and watch the Custom Xbox cab (not the review one). You'll see one of the pics in the slideshow with a guy holding the gun from behind the seats.

Actually, here's the link:

You, my friend, are the Man. Sick cabinet. I dont know what it is but I like the idea of sitting in a big cockpit with guns haha (lost world jurassic park is my favorite rail shooter game growing up)..but I think i've made up my mind and i'm going to wait for the right cab to come along. I just want a Confidential Mission/Lost World/Star Trek Voyager Cab. Some how I will have to retrofit a steering wheel etc but I like the challenge. Maybe a T-Mek cab is the best thing to get..hmmmm

Avoid destroying a good game whenever you can. So definitely hold out for a Voyager cockpit. LOL.

I kid, I kid.

I think the reason the Voyager cockpit works a little better for sitting and shooting than a Lucky N. Wild is because the player sat a little further back from the screen. Maybe I'm wrong?

Same thing as Lost World..i'll take either one!...a broken one of course..dont want to buy a working one and have to take it all apart and part it out.

That lucky and Wild may not even use a lightgun, I can't remember. I've worked on a few back in the day, I'm almost thinking that it uses pots under the gun to tell where it's pointed (and you can adjust it in the menu). I think the gun was just two pieces of plastic with a trigger switch.

I MAY BE WRONG

Yikes, that would have been bad..well thanks for the heads up!
