"Lowballer" - The CL term for informed buyer.

"Lowballer" - The CL term for informed buyer.

Seriously, can't they just be honest and say:

"Please - Only people willing to pay what I want should respond to this ad."

I mean, I can definitely respect that, it's honest. But to call people who KNOW the value of the game and offer accordingly "lowballers" really gets under my skin for some reason.

I think they just like using the word. They always seem to repost it daily for months on end. I am thinking about responding to these posts saying that I will give them an extra $200 if they deliver it a couple hours away just to waste their time. I have some rather lengthy discussions with some of these guys. They are generally ignorant, and refuse to believe that they overpaid for the game.

I love it! Ads like that I never respond to as they have already told me all I need to know.

I may be in the minority but I feel c/l is just an online garage sale, who pays asking price at a garage sale?

Posted an ad a few weeks back to sell my PS3, only listed my asking price as "tell me what you want to offer" Loved all of the responses I got, best one: "I have a broken HP laptop, and a Xbox 360 that has the 3 red rings I can offer"..... lol!

What is the value of an original Mortal Kombat in good working and cosmetic condition?

He is selling it for $450.00. I personally would never pay that much for that game, but I am sure someone would. The price is within reason if it is in nice shape. No?

One game has been posted for months now. Originally wanted $1100, now down to $700. I am partially resposible for this line:

No it's not a typo and don't waste my time with low ball offers that are insulting like some of the CL users feel the need to.

Most of the local guys are afraid to email him because he is asking for a possible trade for an AR-15. :)

Another of the same game sold for $200 during the same time, but he is still only dropping a little at a time.

He probably could find someone to pay it. My problem with these guys is that they ask for offers, then get mad at the offer. They are using a free classified listing. If they want top dollar, go to ebay or pay for an ad somewhere. CL buyers are looking for a steal.

Partially responsible here too :)

"Cheapskate" - the CL term for the KLOV "informed" buyer.

come on, a nice dedicated MKI is worth pretty close to $450. might be a bit harder to find the right buyer in the market is right now, but there'll be someone out there who's looking. and really, i can't blame the guy for not wanting to wade through a bunch of e-mails offering $200 and berating him for being an idiot. as the generation who grew up on MK, SFII and all the classic fighters gain more disposable income the value of nice examples of these games will only stay steady or increase over the next few years.

if he was asking $1450 then i'd be all over lowballing the idiot.

I am sure someone would buy it too, but that "someone" is a rare find in this economy. And more power to the seller if he can get 450.00. But that does not mean the you, or I are lowballers for only offering what most informed people would offer for such a game.

+1. I don't blame him either. Why waste time reading e-mails from people offering $50 so they can resell for $300. A $50 offer to me on a game like that is as good as no offer at all. Sure, craigslist has informed people that know what a game is worth, but that does not mean they offer what a game is worth. Some of the stories of the sh!t people have pulled on here with offers is ridiculous. Just because some people are beyond cheap, doesn't mean everyone has to lower their selling prices to meet their standards.

Ok, I have to ask. :) Assuming that this game is a dedicated MK and in good working condition as he states, which may be a big assumption...what offer would an informed person such as yourself make on this game if you were local and could inspect and pick it up in person.

No one is asking them too. If they don't say obo, I will ignore them. If they ask for an offer, I will send them one. If I am looking on CL, I am not looking to pay what it is worth. I am looking for a good deal.

If someone is reposting months, or even years, on end, then they are not being realistic in their pricing.

But I would offer him $50. :)

That's a lowball offer. hahah.

I don't want that crap in my basement. :p

Lowballer = someone who makes a ridiculously low offer.

That's the way I interpret it anyway. I don't like those people either. The ones who say "you will never get $xxx for that! I just bought 12 of those last week for $1.50" then I sell for my full asking price, or slightly less. Just like I did the last 100 times. I have never understood what makes people think that getting a great deal on a game in the past means I should give them a low price on mine. It's an open market and shit sells for what the market will bare. There is no fixed price for any of this stuff. Know-it-alls who make true lowball offers are really annoying. I don't put "no lowballers" in my add because frankly I don't want to sound like a dick but the people I just described can go fuck themselves.

There are 2 sides to the coin. Don't assume that the guy is talking about people making reasonable offers. He's more than likely talking about people making stupid offers and wasting his time with bullshit.

While I may be mistaken, the term "lowballer" may also apply to various KLOV members during truckstop sausage-slap meet-ups.

"If I am looking on CL, I am not looking to pay what it is worth. I am looking for a good deal." - There's your problem right there.

Someone who wants the game will pay what it is worth as they know if they go to a retail store they will pay more or if they have to ship, they will pay more. Not everyone who is selling something is desperate and looking to move it at any cost, they may want what the game is worth, or close to it...hence the best offer statement. Just because you are looking for a good deal, doesnt' mean they will drop to your standards. When someone posts a price and says he takes offers, but prefaces it with no lowballers, that obviously means he is open to taking offers close to his asking price, not pennies on the dollar.

"If someone is reposting months, or even years, on end, then they are not being realistic in their pricing." - Granted this is true as well. If something doesn't sell month after month, seller should consider lowering the price.

I personally use this term in my ads. Do you think anyone enjoys some one making a $50 offer on a $400 all day long game? I usually say the following, "I'm not hurting for money nor do I need to sell this. Please no low ballers"
Face it - most people making an offer know damn well what a fair price is and they are fishing you. I have no time for tire kickers or fisherman and while it may deter a person from contacting me "like yourself" it weeds out more problems than it causes.

When I post something on CL I'd rather have lowball offers then no offers at all. All offers help me determine how well I priced an item, either too high or too low. If I get a stupid low offer I delete the email and keep going on with my day.

When I see an ad on CL, I have no idea who is selling it most of the time. I can tell when it is an op or a collector, and I know pretty much how they price things. I don't bother putting offers in on those unless their asking price is close to what I want to pay. I have no interest in buying from them most of the time. They are usually the ones that already found the cheap one and they are trying to flip it. I know most of them, so I can recognize the ads pretty quickly.

I am looking for the cheap games that people have had sitting collecting dust for years and just want it gone. These are the people who guess at an asking price and sometimes take low offers.

If someone is asking a ridiculous price, I will lowball just to be an ass. They are wasting my time just as much as I am wasting theirs. I consider those ads to be spam and reply accordingly. I get annoyed seeing them every time I do a search.

I am not a reseller. Keeping prices high is not in my best interest. If I could find every game for $50, I would be very happy. The most I have paid for a game is $275, and I don't see that changing any time soon. I would rather fix a cheap one.
