Ok, I'm back at my uncle's house in Louisville for the week. (Last year he hooked me up with a machine I'm still converting back to a Stargate. Weather has put that on hold for another month atleast). I think we're headed back to Memphis this Saturday, so this issue is time sensative. I'm hoping somebody local can help us out or point me in the right direction.

Anyway, I fixed up a couple of his slot machines and his Comet pinball.

The wife has been playing his Pole Position II and I got the bright idea to open it up and see if the dip switches are set to twin galaxies settings just to play around and see what's doing on the inside out of curiosity.

Well, I noticed the score save battery is pretty damn coroded. So I immediately desoldered it and used vinegar and a brush to get rid of any possible corrosion. The game worked just fine before taking it apart so that's a good thing. My problem is I'm leaving in a few days and don't have time to order a new battery.

Is there anyone out there who may have a battery laying around they can hook me up with? Or atleast tell me where I might be able to get one local that will work with this machine. If not, it'll have to be down for the next year 'til I can come back out here.

My second issue is setting these dip switches to twin galaxies. Just for fun of course.

Settings of 8-Toggle Switch on Pole Position II CPU PCB (at 9L for Atari Boards or 9E for Namco Boards)

1 = OFF
2-5 = ON
6 = OFF
7-8 = ON

Settings of 8-Toggle Switch on Pole Position CPU PCB (at 9JA for Atari Boards or 7E for Namco Boards)
1-5 = OFF
6 = ON
7-8 = OFF

Note: The above Dip Switches, when properly designated, will give the following Twin Galaxies Tournament Settings, used for this title;

Preliminary Game Time: 90 Seconds
Preliminary Rank: D
Extended Rank: D [75 - 45 - 55 - 55 - 55]
Number of Laps: 5
Speed: High Speed

Is "on" when the switch is flipped up and "off" when the switch is down?

Any help is appreciated, folks!

That game will play fine without a battery. It's only use was to save the high scores......and seeing as J1 is uninstalled and J2 is installed (on the motherboard).....the battery had been disabled anyway......so, even when the battery was good, it wasn't saving scores.

Edward

Dang. i wonder what the chances are of getting the save back up and running. why do you think it was disabled to begin with?

As far as the dipswitches go, 'on' is when the rocker portion with the numbers stamped on them is pressed down.

Awesome, thanks for that.

I guess I'm just gonna forget the score save and put it back together. I'd love to find one of those nvrams locally but I'm not having any luck. Just glad I took the battery out when I did.

Next he has an old juke box that won't land on whatever record you choose. This should be fun...

Just remove the jumper at J1 and install it into the J2 position (it just pulls out....no solder iron needed).....now, you'll still need a battery for saving.

I think I may order one of those nv sram chips and just wait 'til next year to install it. Unless I can find one locally. I checked craigslist with no luck. I would settle for another battery, but am afraid it'll corode eventually.

Well, I figured Louisville was huge compared to Memphis. Nobody knows where I can get ahold of one of these chips locally?

Sadly....Louisvillle is a dead zone when it comes to IC chips, semiconductors, etc.

Isn't Memphis larger than Louisville??

Edward

Ok, that makes me feel better. I'm just trying to hook my uncle up. They just said it's about the same size as Memphis. I didn't know that. Not trying to start troubles of course :D. I'm just excited to work on machines.

I don't have any machines to work on like this so I'm excited. I got all his coin mechs working. They were all clogged and not dropping properly.

Technically, Louisville is now bigger than Memphis since they annexed Shepardsville they just told me.
