I have a Lord of the Rings pinball that emits an extremely loud POP! when you run out of balls and its game over. That is the only time it happens. It sounds like a ball slamming against something extremely hard, but it could be the speakers popping. I can't tell where its coming from, and it seems to happen every other game. Does anyone have any idea what this might be?

Seriously? That's probably the knocker going off cause you won a free game....hahahah too friggin funny man...

It should also happen when you get a high score...

I think Stern has a "fake" crappy knocker though...real knocker's rule :)

Are you certain the prior owner hadn't installed a REAL knocker? I can't imagine wth that would be otherwise.

Should have done some research before posting... yes it is a knocker. I disabled it in the menu. Is the Stern knocker not usually that loud? According to the menu it was set to medium, but holy hell it almost knocked me off my feet!

A good knocker should scare the shit out of you haha, as well as let everyone in your house or the arcade know you got a high score.

The software sound of a Stern knocker is horrible compared to an actual solenoid knocker though...I'd probably turn it off too....

I have a Sega one that does it too.
Not so much of a 'knock' sound as an extremely obnoxious POP, very similar to plugging a guitar into the amp while it's powered on with the volume on 11.

The software knocker in the Pinball 2000 games is awful too.

I always liked the multiple knocks at startup on System 11 games when there's an error.

Nothing like a real knocker in a pinball machine.

It's not a POP sound. Original knockers either POP or knock.
