Lots about Mr. Do!

I talked to Jeff and Rich about doing this. I think the issue is dealing with the plastic - particularly making the beveled edges. It also sounds like Jeff no longer has interest in driving this project and he wants a cut of whatever profits exist from whoever does. Not sure what specifically he wants, but that'll add to the cost. That said, I'm definitely in for one whenever it happens.

Beveled edges would be the main reason, not to mention that Jeff owns the artwork so printing a one-off translite might not be practical cost-wise, depending on what he expects.

Wow, really? I think of the countless art projects, that I, Tom Bombachi, Zorg, Blackdog and others have done for this community and never asked for a dime (never got offered one either), then you get stuff like this. Lame-o.

I fired up the prototype Mr. Do! on MAME last night... I'd never played that version before. There are a number of changes...

(1) The clown is a snowman with rake. When he dies his head expands and blows up (as noted before in this thread). Also of note, when he pushes a rock his eyes turn "mean" looking.

(2) The music is different. It's very similar and uses many of the same notes etc, but it is different... and sounds different.

(3) When you collect the fruit in the middle... only the letter comes out while the guys freeze... no "ghost muncher" things... and the "freeze" time is very limited (5-7 seconds maybe) then the enemies start moving again.

I didn't play it enough to get to an intermission...though maybe I'll do that tonight to see if it has them and if so what it may look like.

I was thinking the very same thing yesterday when I read that...

Now they need to make a multiplayer widescreen Mr. Do! and have the prototype guy be one of the characters. :)

I've had my Mr. Do! for about 7 or 8 years now. Love it. I wish I had more Universal games.

Jeff is alright, at the time he made those comments he was out of work and pounding the pavement hard to find a job. With a house, wife, and two kids I think his comments were understandable, but I also consider him a friend.

That said, the hold up on the project is completely on me. I have the NOS Mr. Do! parts and planned to run this project when I finished with a few others, namely Berzerk BAT sticks and Berzerk bezels. Then life hit me in the face and I found myself without a full time job and reinventing my plan. Takes its toll and arcade projects fall to the wayside.

I let the BAT stick go and the bezels are in the works by someone else. The Do stuff I will still run one day, probably after I graduate in May and working again. Be patient, I make nice repros. :)

Glad to hear it! Put me on the pre-pre-pre list :D

It will always be "dew" to me, no matter how the original designer intended it. Even in the flyer it says "Do it Mr. Do", not "Dough it Mr. Do".

I even saw a reference on one FAQ that a laserdisc sequel titled "Adventure Mr. Do" was in the works at one time.
