I can't believe I am asking this question....

Okay, so I am thinking it looks kinda silly with the LED area by the flippers but the rest of the game using regular bulbs.

Does anyone have all LED's in their LOTR?

If so, if you could let me know what kind, where you got them,, and if possible, what the cost was.

This might be my first dive into LED's, even thought I have been one of the biggest opponents of them, LOL

Photos and/or videos of the LEDS in your machine would be a HUGE plus as well.

Thank you in advance!

Chris

Found this on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_Na5dThbFM

I like LEDs on CERTAIN games... But I'm with you, usually one of the biggest opponents of them. I hate when someone bastardizes an older game with them. I think they look better on some of the newer Stern pieces. Couldn't agree more though, if you are going to install LEDs, for the love of all things that are holy and pinball, DON'T mix incandescent and LED. All or nothing!!

Full LED's in my Taxi and I love it. Screw both of you old farts! ;)

I'll get some of it. Sure I'll get a beatdown for it. I'll be honest and say the bright ones under the slings are a bit much. I will wind up going with some of the newer frosted ones for much of the GI eventually.

Not a sin to mix led and incandescent, just hard to do AND make it look good.

God damn I love the countaker frosteds for GI. It may not look like an incandescent but it BEHAVES like one. Light in all directions.

VIDEO?

:)

Chris

Here ya go... I'm thinking this video might not help my case due to the angle. The sling and right side GI lighting is blaring right into the camera. I think if you're on the fence about LEDs, going with LED inserts and incandescent GI is nice.

I can take the beatdown if anyone wants to give it to me, but it looks better in person than on camera. Everyone that has played it and Pinbot back to back says the Pinbot looks drab. It has all incandescent except for planets and grid.

Horrible first ball, but I turned it around. FF to about 5:00 if you want to see start of some light show stuff.

+ 1,000,000

EXACTLY. It's a beautiful and bright game as is. Why are people so LED crazy!? It's the strangest fad....It looks good already!!!!

Trust me, I am NOT LED crazy.

I generally dislike LED's in pinball machines. No offense to TOK, but I thought that Taxi would be unplayable the way he has it set up. The are too harsh, and go on and off too fast to have the correct effect.

That said, the LOTR already had the LED for the ring inserts by the flippers, so I thought it would nto be that drastic to change the rest out. After looking at YouTube videos, I realize how wrong that thought was :D

For the record, at least in that video, the Pin Bot looks pretty good. Looks like there are LED's in that as wel, at least in the grid and the planet inserts (judging by the hyperactive green insert).

I'm not offended, and realize its a polarizing thing. I was actually expecting harsh criticism on it, especially because I caught it at a horrible angle where you can see the GI below the slings.

I don't have the problems following the ball or other issues people say that have. The GI lighting is the only thing I will likely change, and then I will only go to frosted/dimmer LED's.

I was reading some of the comments on LOTR in your RGP post, and the stuff about using a lot of dimming and all would probably make me stay with standard lighting on that machine. I've only played it a couple times and shows, when I'm not really able to pay a lot of attention to things the machine does.

Perhaps my advanced brain functioning that makes me sensetive to LED's. Yeah, that must be it :)

They give me a headache in most of the machines I have seen them in, and even if it is only the GI that is LED.

That alone should have made my decision a no brainer, but since there are already SOME LED's that I can't chaneg, I was nto sure.

Thanks again!

Chris

I have only seen 3 LOTRs with LEDs. 1 was the full Cointaker kit and it looks fabulous, one was Marco's kit and it was OK but not great, the third was a "work in progress" that was about 1/2 converted and it looked bad.

For what it is worth, IMHO, spend the cash on the Cointaker kit and put the whole thing in.

MHO: Spend a fraction of the money on colored bulbs ($2/box of 10). It'll look better and all your coin won't be taken. Especially for GI (under plastics & slings, etc.), the colored bulbs look great and fit in with the actual artwork and decorative feel of the game.

i have the full led kit in my lotr. i like it. i have the back box kit from flipper fidelity that i need to put in.
