This game is an absolute disaster and probably not worth fixing, but I might as well see if I can save it. Game works, guns do nothing. This is the big sit down enviromental version and everything inside is covered in mouse hair & feces. Looks like Sega guns and I see some sensors surrounding the big screen.

So does this sound like it's worth fixing? Does it have to use Sega guns? If so, where can I find them? Does this even sound like a gun problem?

Anyone have any ideas? Getting ready to maybe look at it again tomorrow.

These games are difficult to troubleshoot without a second working type 2 gun machine
nearby.

First start with the screen sensors. They should all have a very faint red dot in the
center.

The gun IO board is located on the shelf inside the cabinet near the CPU. It's
a board about 8 inches square. Open the guns and check wiring continuity from
the gun sensor board connector to the connector at the gun IO board.

Sometimes you get lucky and the connector just falls off the gun sensor. There is
a bulletin on Sega's web site about hot glue on the connector and sensor board.

There is a lot that goes wrong with these games. Most of the time it's caused
by bad gun cables. When the cable goes bad in a game without the protection
board kit installed it will take out the ($) sensor board in the gun. I've also been
seeing a lot of IO board failures recently so I guess they don't last forever.

IR beacons huh?

There's a better way to test these. Get a cellphone with a camera, or a digital camera with an LCD display (film cameras won't work, you need something with a CCD). Put the lens of the camera right in front of the sensor. It may take a few tries to line them up, especially with cellphones. The LED should appear very bright on the camera's screen, it's usually a faded purple color. If you don't get any glow, or a very faint glow compared to the other sensors, there's something wrong with that sensor.
