Lost the thrill.

You start out buying a game you really like, then you find some other games to buy cheap that you never really intended to own, and you start taking up space in the house/garage.

story of my life

Spanks just because you lost the thrill doesn't mean you have to stay a stranger. God some of your posts made me laugh hysterically. ..

I think that's the problem with this hobby sometimes. You get the "bug" to buy buy buy... Then all of a sudden you can't move in your garage and your game room is full... That being said Spanks... Just figure out the games that actually make you happy, sell the rest and then enjoy playing your favorites... Maybe even make one of them a multicade.

I'm on the fence right now... I have six in the basement... Out of room... and three in the garage I want in the game room... All are restored so deciding on how to make it happen is becoming a problem.

Just remember, it's just a hobby.

I don't even know how many games I have now (should take a count :p) but I'm a little over whelmed myself. As of now my truck parks outside and I have a 2.5 car garage loaded 70% with games! As for the basement there is a path you walk through between the games. I need to stop buying and get these damn things done and sell the others. It's funny my friends come over and say shit like "What the hell's wrong with you?" My plan is to get my dream arcade room done and start working on my muscle cars again. I have a 69 GTO almost ready for paint but has been sitting in that state for 4 years now :(

For me its re-living my childhood/teenage years again that are now gone. Arcades are a thing of the past. Now i can enjoy these games in the confort of my own home.. I do agree it becomes to much when you WANT every game you see. I like to just stay with the games that i played all the time when i was a kid..

I think for me it was reliving my child hood days. Well with the good memories always comes the bad. I will probably keep 4-5 which are my only grails and just unload the rest. I don't need the space or the money, but trying to relive a childhood that wasn't that great to begin with all over again isn't that bright.

I can understand the OP. I was an avid collector for several years. I collected all my "grails" then realized one day I hadn't been down to my arcade in months. I've sold off almost everything and I thought for sure I would regret selling some of the rarest games I had, but regret never set in, I had fun while I was into it, now its been fun passing the games onto folks who are excited about them as I once was.

I am in the same boat. I haven't played a game in months and haven't had the want to play any of them.

spanks, sorry to hear you lost interest in this hobby. thats all it is and not a life style you move on to the next thing that interests you. so my question is what are the remainder of the games you have left, selling, etc.?

there will always be games out there you found them once so if you want them again its not like you cant find them.

Amen to this.

People seem to freak out when someone starts selling games. These games are everywhere, and with the exception of the rarer vectors/lasers, these games are easy to find should you want them again. Even the rarer games are around, you just pay more for those once you want them again :)

Super pac *claimed*, Make trax, Dk, Mario, and SuperSonic pin. That leaves the neo 4-slot, mrs. pac, ring king, spectar, and moon patrol for now. I put a thread in the for sale section with the condition etc. etc. on the ones that need to go. If I can get down to my five grails I think I will be content for awhile.

The last time I sold off my games I went 10 years without a single one.

I think it's like collecting anything - at some point you have what you wanted and then it can get stale. I could sell off most of my machines tomorrow and I wouldn't feel bad about it. I'd keep maybe 2-3 that I really like playing and the rest would not be missed.

It's like when i sold my boat - my 32 foot fishing boat in a slip on the Pacific ocean. When I was leaving the dock after selling it I had no regrets because my time was up and I'd had my fun with it. Same goes for when I sold my Porsche 911. I had a good 8-9years of daily use and had a ton of fun in that car. Those were both major league man toys and I've got no regrets.

Not saying this applies to Spanks, but I have noticed that the guys who "Burn Out" are trying to cram too much into too little.

Either they don't really have the money, or they don't have the space, or they don't have the time it takes to be in a particular hobby at the level they are trying to be in at.

Keep your hobby at a level you can manage and even if you lose interest for a while, you don't have to liquidate to get your life back.

Perhaps you can compromise... How about 3 MAME units instead? 1 Horizontal, 1 Vertical and 1 driving. That would cover most (not all of course) games. You could even stretch it by installing a pinball emu or two on the Vertical cabinet.

I know it's not the same as owning the real deal, but it's pretty close and better than getting rid of arcades in your home altogether.

That's what I plan to do, since I'm tied up with space. So far, I have 1 out of 3 MAME machines going along with a couple of dedicated ones. My vertical is almost done, and I have a driving cab in the garage waiting to be MAMEed. I plan to get rid of my dedicated ones eventually to make more room.

By the way, the main reason I have them is because I love to entertain and everyone always gets a kick out of my arcade machines. I can't explain it, but I love showing them to people!

There's always GOLF.

I'm only 36, but I have found that as I grow older I enjoy stress-free, quiet solitude (preferably out on the green) more and more. I think it is quickly becoming my new hobby.

My arcade collection has never grown beyond 8. I mainly keep them for my little girl who loves them. I got rid of the 3 non-working ones and I refuse to buy project games anymore. They must work 100% and be at a yard sale/thrift store prices to even be considered. That keeps the hobby in check for me and it keeps the wife happy. I haven't bought a new game in well over a year.

lol I find myself playing less golf and working on games with spare time.
I still love golf but I am spending free time on the video games.
On the bright side though, I don't play crappy courses over the last fewmonths
when I go to play every couple of weeks, we play somewhere awesome.

If you don't play them - and no one else does either what's the point of having games?? Yes Spanks sell sell sell. Sell like a muh fukker. Let these games go to a home to be played and loved as they should be.

The same should mindset should be adopted by all the board horders. What's the point of having 3+ of the same board if you'll never use it?

And FWIW - no ones childhood was 100% rainbows and sunshine. We're all victims of our past whether you like it or not. It's what makes us who we are today. You have every chance/option to change who you are if you don't like yourself which appears to be the case. Reinvent my friend.

Waaah.. I lost the thrill..

In every hobby there are serious people and people that come and go.
Ive been into this hobby for about 10 years. Do I play the games every day? no. But I enjoy them whenever friends come over. And since these games have a deeper meaning to me, I feel great just having them.

Id like to say BYE to everyone who's lost the thrill :) Nice knowing you....
