So I lost music in Congo Bongo. It was working fine until I had to test another machine out. can anyone help me try to figure out what i could do to fix this? Also The volume control on the board doesn;t really seem to work. Anyone fix these?

no, you are totally screwed. now sell it to me

try going into test mode and see if you can get it to play from there
make sure you have the connectors on the right way, first

.

i did throw it in and everything came upo good except when you go thru sound test. from the mid 20's up there are no sounds or music. i read in REALLY old post that sega board of this time have audio problems. it's weird to just lose audio now.

Zaxxon loses sound and there's a fix for that. Is Congo Bongo similar hardware in that way?

I did this solution 2 fix 10yrs ago and it worked on mine.

from an old rgvac post:

Zaxxon (+Super Zaxxon)
==Problem: Sounds of ship flying, explosions, etc. may be there when
the game is first turned on, but slowly fade over several minutes. Will
not return until the game has been left off for a while. [COMMON]
-Solution 1 (easy): Replace all 2.2 uF/50V caps C69, C68, C29, C28,
C38. Only use basic cheap-o polarized electrolytics (e.g. Mouser 140-
XRL50V2.2). Don't get fancy, as the circuit relies on the leakage
through this cap.
-Solution 2 (better): Replace C69, C68, C29, C28, C38 with non-polar
electrolytics (e.g. Mouser 140-NPRL50V2.2). Next, strap the "output"
side of each cap to the +6V common though a 100kohm resistor. Refer to
the circuit diagram to find the best place to install each resistor.
-Discussion: These caps are used as DC blocking caps in the audio
section. As the feed a high-Z load without any tie-down resistor, they
do not really work as high-pass filters as planned. The capacitor can
build up a charge which eventually biases the OP amp to the point of
clipping. When the caps are fresh, leakage through the cap can prevent
the run-away bias. But if fresh caps are installed that do not have
enough leakage, they will not work.

ok here is what happened, i have owned congo bongo for awhile now. worked perfectly.
i recently picked up a super zaxxon. i had no picture. so to test my monitor i pulled congo bongo out and swapped cabs to test both super zaxxon board and its monitor.
both boards are compatable with the wiring.
so needless to say i found another chassis and threw it in super zaxxon and DING i have a fully working game. i go to put congo bongo back in its cabinet and now i have no music during gameplay but all sound effects are present.

is there a dipswitch for the music ?
maybe in the software theres an on/off setting for the music that got reset when taken out

nothing of the sort/ maybe sound in display mode. i can't find anyone on here that fixes them.

Wish I could help, but I have no way of testing the board on my end. If it is the audio caps, and it could very well be, you need someone to replace the audio section caps and add the resistors, like in that tech article, so that the caps "leak" like they need to. Can someone do this?

I have a spare congo bongo pcb, 100% working I could sell if you get to your wits end and can't get this one fixed.

shoot me a pm if you get there.

good luck, I hope you fix it though.
