Lost Highway Emergency Line....

This idea is from Alan173:

Attach one of these flyers(or whatever you wanna call em) to each utility pole I have, they are a better fit on those old poles than on the nice wall. It would kind of prompt any gamer to go "look" for the phone, as these flyers are a sort of warning or a form of help if you are lost or wandering on the Lost Highway. Check out these pics:

Yep, much better fit. Man the 'flyer' possibilities are endless. Missing (significant) persons bulletins, Lost pet notices, Stolen plane flyers, etc.

Right on. I want to thank everyone for their ideas and opinions. It helps to have all the different brain waves flowing in my direction. I appreciate it fellas!

Then just slap a "Dial M for Murder" sign above it. You should also have a looped version of the Close Encounters of the Third Kind tones playing in the receiver when you pick it up. Then throw in some recorded old ham radio broadcasts. Hell, maybe even add some bits and pieces of Orson Wells 'report' from the original War of the Worlds radio broadcast.

You could probably accomplish this by hacking the guts of one of those "record your own message" greeting cards into the internals of the phone. I't sn NC circuit, which may work with the reciever, and just take the wires normally to the speaker and run them to the speaker in the handset. Would give some wiggle room on making it weird, could be crackling plastic and move it towards/away from the audio source you're recording to give it a fade in/out effect.

Awesome level of detail! How about when you pick up the phone receiver, you hear the type of creepy, staticky noise and tones from the movie "signs" when they would listen on the baby monitor?

Teamwork makes cool arcades even cooler! And the Lost Highway Arcade is about as cool as it gets for an arcade with a theme!

Looks like you need to adapt the 'NASA Phone'!! LOL......

This is exactly what Alan173 did with his cold war dial phone. I'm writing it down now, thanks

Ok, I just made a second flyer. This one is white paper. I soaked it in green tea for half and hour, which made it wrinkle on its own. Dried it with a hairdryer, used a fine felt tipped pen to write "I Like Ike" on the bottom, and "John and Frances were here Jan '82" on the top. I smeared the ink with green tea to make it run and look weathered. I folded the paper, crinkled it, and smeared some wood ash from my fireplace on it, then tore it and burned it. I put it on the pole that is to the right of my mural. I like the way this one turned out.....

Nice. I know in my world that pilot would have a pair of tits, a cowboy hat or a disproportionate swinging wanger comprised of red or blue ink by now. Or he'd have horns. Or he'd have 2 wangs for horns, or 2 wangs for tits, or - well, you get the picture.

Ok, here's flyer #3, stapled to the pole to the left of the mural.

The danger sign on the pole is porcelien(sp?) and from a railyard in England. The sign on the crossbeam is a real 1940's-50's reflective road sign.

On this flyer I once again soaked it in green tea, crumpled it and folded it. I scrubbed my fireplace mantle with it, rubbed ashes, industrial grease, used engine oil, power steering fluid, and orange action hand cleaner on/into it. Then I burned it. I wrote VOID across the middle and "For a good time call Phetty 777-4321" in the upper left corner; its smeared with the tea, and not too legible....so don't worry Phet!

Looks awesome. I like it on the white paper, it seemed to take the weathering and aging alot better.

This is an awsome idea, Phet. I'm planning on using somthing similar in my arcade!

I am honored. I hope I get a few calls out of this. Business has been slow since Fritz opened up Boysticks II: Electric Buggeroo.

Go for it man. I think I might do the same. Maybe have it playing thru some old-assed crackling drive-in movie speakers hanging on poles.

I'm going for a "Bomb-shelter" kinda thing, full of cold war memorabilia and signage. Two big-old speakers busting out bomb sirens and radio broadcasts would only be slightly annoying, hahaha.

Most of you have seen the old wall mounted bakelite crank phone I have. I wanted to update the text that goes with it to better fit my arcade's theme.

Gorfchampion, Your arcade is sweet. I really like all of your old signs. The theme is pretty solid, and the stuff you put in there only backs it up.

Ok, last one for now. This one is a different design. I trimmed it so its tall and skinny.

I soaked it in tea for about 3 hours. Crinkled it up several times. Ran it over with my van on my garage floor, grinding in some snow and sand. I shot holes thru it with my BB gun. Tore it up a little and burned it. I like this one a lot....
