Hosted a party last nite(sat. Oct 2); with the new theme for my arcade...The Lost Highway Arcade.

Had quite a number of Klov guys, and lots of other friends. Probably about 35-40 people cycled thru here between 2pm and 2am, when I finally shut the games off.

Some notable fellow gamers included Duane(cpu slave), Jim(Myth Trip), Shawn(Phet), Tom(Gorf 69), Andre(Rhombus), Erik(zookeeper).

I had $150 worth of quarters down there, and we emptied that bowl and then some no problem. And considering almost half of my games are on freeplay, you can imagine how many games were played.

As usual, Sea Wolf and Captain Kid got most of the attention. Surprisingly this time around Space Invaders took in a ton of quarters. Final Fight was a big hit, along with Mr. Do! Moon Patrol was really attracting a lot of players as well.

Here's just a few random shots of people playing. This was the best party I have hosted to date.

I'll post some more detailed pics of the things I've used to decorate the Lost Highway Arcade in a bit....

I had a friend of mine paint a mural on the north wall of the bigger room in my arcade. Pictures don't do it justice, you really have to be here to get the full effect, so keep that in mind as you view this stuff.

I bought a mannequin off ebay and put him in a genuine Korean War pilots suit, along with a WWII gas mask, and I put glowing LED lights inside the mask by the eyes to bring him to life. He's the downed pilot who came thru the time warp.

I also cut down an old telephone pole(with permission; was not being used) and cut it into 4 lengths, got some insulators and wooden threaded rods off ebay, and used old wood out of an old truck bed I had laying around for the cross beams and support bars. The signs I got off ebay. Please Dim Lights is a reflective sign from the 40's or 50's, and the small red Danger sign was out of a railyard in England(they mounted those to utility poles). The danger sign on the pole to the right is just a novelty paintball sign; the guy resembles my downed pilot and goes with the theme...

The whole point of the theme is to keep in mind that anything can happen on the lost highway. You might see a downed pilot who got shot down by a UFO after coming thru a time warp, you might see a Space Invader, or have the military launching missiles as a counterattack, etc.

More in a bit....

Second pic is the bomber(crashed!!)

Third pic is the UFO shooting across the highway in front of that poor car....

First pic here is a closeup of the Space Invader, notice he is translucent...you can see his eyes in the shadow

Pic #2 is the missiles(resembling Missile Command of course) taking off into the sky to counter the aliens; behind the missiles and to the right you can see a group of helicopters flying in....

At the other end of this side of the arcade I have 2 more telephone/utility poles; one sign is a NOS dept of agriculture sign..."Experimental Area Boundary". The other sign is a porcelain Danger sign from India,1950's(ebay) warning you of high voltage.

The cut power line is just a length of old garage door cable.

I purposely cut 3 of the 4 poles so they stand crooked; ever see a straight pole?

Like I said, pics don't do it all justice; just ask any of the guys who came to the party what they think of it all. Hope everyone enjoys this post! I had fun doing it all, which is what this stuff is for....

So much cool stuff required fewer words of applause.

Nice

Lost Highway Arcade

The pictures really don't do the arcade justice. You really feel the nostalgia of the 80's walking down there. Games were well spaced so that you aren't bumping elbows with other players and you could easily see the side art of all the machines. I liked the random 1980's pop bottles. I'm pretty sure that the Moon Patrol game got the most play, I tried to get on that one for a couple of hours before it was open. Great party, Great games, Terrific Arcade! Thanks!

Sounds like you all had a great party. Old School Games, you can't go wrong! Thanks for the pics and the update!

This picture is awesome. Love the real telephone poles matching the ones off in the distance in the mural. Great theme.

The Lost Highway Arcade is off the charts. I never wanted to leave. The atmosphere is perfect, the game spacing is perfect and the titles are sweeter than hell. Captain Kidd? Best game I have ever played that was not Sea Wolf, which is the best game I ever played. His Space Invaders was gorgeous, the downed pilot was tall, dark and scary as fuck. The Lost Highway mural reminded me of a surreal Arizona/ New Mexico/ Route 66/ Area 51/ CEOTTK scene all rolled into 1. The Telephone poles were a great touch. Thanks for the great time Johnny Boy. 410 total miles/6 hours driving time logged. See next year at the next Galaxy Blue Soiree.

Thanks Phetty, glad you liked it.

Note: no camera has yet to really capture the real colors of my walls/lights/decor. I'm starting to believe its an impossible task...

Thanks again John for the invite. It was great seeing your arcade in person and meeting your family. I also didn't want to leave and never realized how much fun it is to play Sea Wolf. Also, thanks again for the Gorf tips.
