I am playing my pole position, and on occasion when I spin the wheel hard, the red gets lost, and comes back on.

Is this as simple as a cold solder joint? Or worst case replacing the red color pot?

where does a guy get the pots by the way?
thanks

ok, I will pull it out and do that.

I thought I would ask if it's possibly an earth ground issue.

Simple moves like stepping on the peddle lightly or turning the steering wheel make it change colors, as well as whacking the side of the cabinet. :O)

reflow solder on the neck board first thought right?

Yeah - check the wiring as well. If there are splices in the wire somewhere, or if the pins don't grip real well on the chassis - that could be it as well. (I had this happen with green on an elevator action - it was just a loose connection)

I would lean more towards the video wire right where it goes into the board. Also when you pull that board out, do it like this:

Add a little bit of solder to all the video connections...

Remove the new solder and it'll help pull all the old solder off too

Do 2 or 3 at a time so the whole connector doesn't fall out

Get nice new shiny solder on there and you should be fine. It's important to remove the old solder on these G07's... I tried in the past just adding a little bit of solder to reflow it, but on several monitors that made the problem even worse. If you remove the old solder, your problem will go away. Adding a tiny bit of solder first makes it easier to remove the old stuff.

It COULD be a neck transistor, or a pot but in my opinion that doesn't happen much on the G07's, the video connector acts up all the time on them so I'd go there first. Also since minor stuff makes it happen, it's more likely to be the wiring which is just hanging and easier to move, hence why moving the wheel, using the pedal, etc. vibrates enough to move the wiring slightly.

If you're going to go thru the trouble of getting your iron hot, pulling the chassis and soldering the neckboard, you might as well go all the way and do all the joints on the board at the same time. It'll take only a little while longer, and I guarantee there are other broken joints that can cause issues in the future.

you mean the spots on the chassis? of course I will. than ks

Thanks to all for this thread. I have a Pole Position that was acting the same as Tron Guy's machine. I wiggled the video wires and noticed the red coming in and out. I then reflowed the headers and problem solved.
