I got a call from a buddy who has a Blitz arcade game.. He doesn't have a clue what size or brand monitor is in it.. He told me it works great for about 15-20mins.. Then it starts to go out of focus to the point it's unplayable..

Wish I had more info on the monitor.. My question is, would this be a failing flyback? Or is the tube going? I've had tubes that just wouldn't focus, but never a game that would slowly go out of focus once warmed up.

He's a bit of a drive, so I'd like to buy all the parts I need before I go.. Yeah, I'll have the monitor info by then :)

Thanks for any info!

Sounds like a failing flyback or possibly failing caps. My guess is there is a K7000 in there. As always, check for cold solder while the chassis is removed for any work.

K7000

I hope there's a K7000 in there. Just rebuilt 2 of those yesterday.. Both had flyback a with big holes in them.. Lost count on all the cold solder joints I touched up.. There were a few spots with zero solder left.

Thanks for the info

My question is, would this be a failing flyback?

I have had 2 25k700s with wandering focus and cap kits + flybacks took care of it. I replaced the flybacks because the old ones were cracked and the cap kits were to fix other issues. Hard to say if it was caps or the fly, but I would guess its a flyback problem.

Fly

I'm almost 100% sure it's the fly.. Only cause I picked up a 19" k7000 from a friend tonight and it's got kinda the same issue. Not with the focus, but the brightness knob.. It's super touchy and slowly gets brighter once set.. Still has the original white knob fly..

So I guess I've got my answer.. I'll replace the fly and caps.. Thanks!

other things that can cause this (besides a flyback):

- loose focus wire to neck socket.

- cold solder joint on focus pin on neckboard.

- bent, dirty, or broken focus pin on tube neck.

- bad neck socket.

- crack in neckboard.

Heh

Gotta love people who think I'll work for free :(

Emailed the guy telling him what he probably needs.. Gave him a quote on parts and labor.. He wrote back, couldn't you do it cheaper?

Um, charging him parts at cost.. And $65 to install.. Plus I'm gonna burn an easy $15-20 in gas round trip.

No, I can't do it cheaper. Gotta love people who waste your time.

Im having the exact same problem on my Blitz 99. If you end up doing the fix and you can tell if it was the flyback or the cap please let me know. I dont even play it because its really annoying. The other thing mine does is it has a bunch of horizontal lines as well.

horizontal lines? they're not the diagonal retrace lines are they? I never heard of horizontal jailbars before. lol

that just means your Screen adjustment on the flyback moves on its own too :p
