Looks like Stern "Rolling Stones" pinball machine is official

See ad in Replay magazine below.

Supposedly Tron is next (in the Spring). That's the one I'm really waiting for.

More like stern in the coffin. Geez can pinball join us in 2011 please? How is this going to appeal to anyone under 50.

I like the Stones and all, but they haven't really been relevant since their last pinball machine a hundred years ago.

Sure, its better than a Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga pin, but damn... This whole thing seems like a big waste of time, effort and money.

Maybe the finished product will change my mind, but right now, I have ZERO interest in this pin.

Ballys Stones machine sucked (had fairly high production numbers though) :)
So why choose a title that's already been done?
Why choose a band that hasn't been TOP 40 in how long?
Why choose a band that IMHO has ALMOST zero influence on the 21-35ish crowd which stern is trying to generate new blood?
Why do I even care? heh heh

And yes - Tron is next. Sometime ~ April I'm told. I have a very reliable source and have seen a pic of the play field drawing.
TRON's layout is freaking tasty. Getting back to the good old days of 3 flippers, 2 ramps and 3 pops. I'm very excited to see this one. FWIW - I haven't been excited about any Stern released in a looooong time.

Ugh, I don't like the them AT ALL. I'm a big classic rock fan, but the Stones just aren't good for pinball in 2011. If it was 1970, I'd be all in.

For a music theme, I think you'd be much better off with The Beatles (far more universal appeal and far better canvas of visuals to work with), or a mix of bands from a single label. They could have gone for a Rock and Roll hall of fame approach or something and featured several artists but limited it to one label to minimize licensing.

They should have struck while the iron's hot and made an original zombie themed pin.

No license fees, and a chance to make a pin unlike any other in the history of pinball.

This might have something to do with it:

They are a couple of years late in cashing in on the RS Bigger Bang Tour. You could argue that an AC/DC game would make more sense given that the tour just ended and they had a higher total attendance than The Rolling Stones. However, that Stones tour averaged $119 per ticket while AC/DC averaged $87.

I'm curious to see how the playfield will be laid out. But the theme is crap, I'd never want one in my house...

I'm REALLY excited to see if Jack comes through with Wizard of Oz!! Exciting to have a new pinball maker, I hope he makes it, and then a couple more after that. He was talking about original designs and mentioned Steve Ritchie, and ya...exciting to say the least...

The AC/Dc tour was over in 2010. The U2 tour is still running, has half as many shows, and almost as much revenue as the Rolling Stones.

I have not been interested in anything from Stern in a while now, and this keeps that trend going. I mean not only buying, but playing on location. At the last pinball show in Allentown, they had a BBH, Shreck and Ironman, and I did not play any of them. I looked at them to see if there was anything notable, but I had zero desire to play them. I can't imaging Rolling Stones would be any different, but I will wait to see it before I pass judgement :)

A totally irrelevant pin then a several months too late pin. I couldn't be less excited about either one.

They should have had Tron ready for the movie, they really should have. I think it has enough of pull with our age group to still generate buzz, but passerby quarter dropping won't be the same in April as it would have been last month.

They have some really cool things that they can do with Tron. I really hope that they have blue transparent ramps, and a mode where a black light kicks on to make the ramps and much of the art glow. Think how freaking cool it could look if they shut down all the GI and had a black lamp light up some key shots that have white indicators near them. To not make it too obnoxious they could limit it to multiball or certain modes, but it would be great. Maybe it could be a powerball deal so that the ball would glow and it wouldn't be every ball.

Do it, Stern. Do it. This would be cheap and really provide the wow factor.

Funny - I darn near typed the exact same ideas on RGP! I don't feel Stern has ever had such a theme to work with that allows them such a killer way to implement light shows and such. I honestly have to say this alone is what has me excited about Tron. It's not the theme itself where as the TRS pin .... well ... I can;t see how they could have a great theme to work with?
I was excited about Avatar and while the game is fun it's not "gotta have one for home" fun if that makes sense.

My wife is a huge OZ fan. I could possibly see one of those in my future as well.

I'd also hope that they'd take a look at doing Ghostbusters at some point. Is that third movie still on track? I'd probably drop the cash for a Ghostbusters theme.

But yes, there's SO much potential with Tron, and it doesn't have to be expensive. I really hope that Daft Punk music is part of the package...

Tron is a theme that could translate into an AWESOME pin. I would love to see it happen and hold out hope that it will. I'm just not getting my hopes up.

As far as the release date goes it makes no sense to me whatsoever. I've heard virtually nothing about TRON outside of this forum. I could be wrong but the movie doesn't seem like a runaway sensation. I won't be convinced that they'll even make a TRON pin until they officially announce it.

If you want to attract a new generation of fans, make a Taylor Swift machine.

The Rolling Stones are dinosaurs.
