I just bought a non working MK3 pcb with intentions on repairing it. It has the U14 and U15 RAMS that are lighting up red and the screen image is garbled. I removed the two chips in hope of replacing them, however these are not the type of chips that go through the PCB and get soldered to the board on the back. These chips somehow get soldered to the board on the same side as the chip. I would imagine you would need some type of very fine soldering tip and a steady hand. When I removed the chips, there may be one spot where the solder pad is missing and possibly a busted trace. I am looking for someone reputable who could repair this for me. Of course if it is going to cost as much as the board is worth, I will just try and find another.

Through-hole = parts that have legs that go through a hole in a board and are soldered on front and back.

SMD = Surface Mount Devices. Parts that are soldered on one side of the board directly to the pads/traces. These parts often have "hair thin" legs that are nearly impossible to work on with standard soldering equipment. A hot air rework station is required.

Look in the "Services Offered" section for members who may do this kind of work for you.
