Hey guys -
Looking for a couple Rock 'N Bowl owners to check the following questions for me. Much appreciated!

  1. Inside of the front door are two wires with terminals on the end. One black, one grey/white. What are these for? There's screw holes in the inside of the cabinet where *something* was mounted, but hell if I can tell what. But I DO know that..
  2. It wasn't the coin & tent counters, since I'm pretty sure - verify this for me - that the 6-pin plug with three wires (one ground, one coming from the ticket mech) is is the connector for the counters. Pretty sure, but if anyone can verify, let me know. :)
  3. Where the hell is the serial number? :D
  4. I'm a little confused on my game - I'm thinking that my game may be a really really early one or even a 'sample' or 'proto', since:
    • The power board is red (like proto WMS pinballs from the era), and it has some wire-colors hand-printed on it.
    • The 'apron' was spray-painted black, not powder-coated.
    • The 'apron' is also uses wing-nuts to hold it down. I am somewhat sure that the games I used to work on back in the mid-late 90's had shoulder-latches.
  5. The plug running to the coin acceptor has 4 wires in it. Ground, coin switch (red-violet), ? (red-white), +12v? (red) - Am I correct on the +12v? And what's the red-white for?
  6. Anyone know the latest ROM revision?

Thanks in advance all!

I have a super clean one in storage. I am not going over that way for a few days. I will get you some snaps if no one else answers you in the meantime.

Yep its for sale as well...

This one I got was free. It's had a hard life -
- The cabinet has some medium-size scuffs to it and some edges are swollen.
- The back door's in horrible shape (swollen so much it won't even fit..0
- The coin mech was adjusted to some strange off-hand size.
- No sweeper.
- The ticket mech looks like it's from the late 80's - partially rusted, no manual advance pushbutton.
- *Every Single Bulb* was burnt out. Including the florescents. (Actually.. except the low-ticket bulb. Go figure.)

Despite this, I powered it on, and once I fixed the coin mech, it operated fine. Even the ticket mech. So, I can't really complain. Some of the things I was curious about though, that I mentioned above. Unknown wires, no shoulder latches, etc I'm just curious about.

The wife freakin' loves it. holy crap, she dropped about $10 in quarters as soon as I plugged it in. .. And no, I don't know what she's planning on doing with the tickets. I have to order more, actually.

Edit to add: I do plan on calling Bromley this afternoon. I'm not sure if anyone there will be able to help, since this game came out over a quarter of a century ago, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Just an update- called and spoke to someone there in service (can't remember the name) and he suggested I send an email and he'd forward it to some folks. So, email was sent out - and it'll likely be a week until I hear back - *IF* I hear back at all. We'll see.

Edit to add: Decided to do a search on ebay for the game, and actually, some questions were answered - someone has a lock-down bar for sale -

Which yes, uses latch bolts. There's also a power board listed, which is NOT red like mine.

So, it looks like I have an early game. Neat. :)

Bump!

Interestingly, looks like I either have a really early game, or a really late one (where costs were cut) - since there's apparently a flyer on eBay that says 'All Plywood Cabinet' - but mine's plywood and particle board.

I also linked this in your other thread...

$425 - http://detroit.craigslist.org/mcb/vgm/5443879884.html
Yeah Thanks -
There's a few on ebay - some are like, $500 and over, and a few under $200. The crazy thing is that I got mine for free. The guy was selling it for $50, and listed it a few times on CL, and I called him and told him I was interested. Went down to look at it, and noticed it has the sweeper missing (and the ticket dispenser had rust on it.) He goes, "Well, I'm just trying to get rid of it - if you can load it up, you can have it for free."

Crazy prices some of these people try selling for. :)

Two were just parted out on ebay, and *neither* of them had the sweepers either. From memory, many operators just completely disabled the sweepers when they stopped working.

I have two right now. Just got them and haven't gotten inside yet.
I had one a few years ago I was asking $125 for. Guy offered me $75 was like whatever take it.

For $75, I'd take another - if nothing else, for parts. :D (Or cabinet, or art..) But some are (and have been, repeatedly) listed on the auction site for over $600, which... well, I wish them good luck.

Sorry I haven't been able to get over to storage. I will and hopefully soon... I would be a seller @ $100.00

No problem. If you plan on going over a weekend, let me know, I can meet you down there. (2 hour drive, but I can have some fun on the back-roads..)

I think my game is missing a tilt plumbbob as well, so I'd be curious to see if all games have/had them or not. (I don't remember one on the games I used to work on, though, frankly, trying to remember something like that back then.. eh..)

Mine does have the tilt mechanism on it. For the life of me and can't figure out what your calling a sweeper. We looked all over the machine for something like that and IDK. Anyway I did get pictures today of the machine. I will post them up for you later tonight. There is no ticket mech in the machine.

Overall shots...

The sweeper is a .. uh.. pink plastic that rests at the top (front) of the playfield, under the coin chute. After a set number of games, a motor (located on the front of the playfield, right side) will slide the sweeper down the length of the playfield - pushing all fallen coins down into the coin box. :)

From memory, when I was running a few arcades - they never held up, the poly belt would rip or break, or a switch would go back and end up jamming it, so they were removed. (Mine, for example, was removed, but I now have a replacement..)

Thanks a bunch for the pictures. Interestingly, wiring was changed as well - the shot showing the wiring to the front door is different than mine. Strange.

Edit: Looking at your pictures - in the 4th inning especially - it looks like your whole sweeper mechanism is missing. It's a metal bracket that sits on top of the playfield on the right side of the game, against the far edge. You should have a plug up to the right of the coin chute, with 9 pins in it - this is for the motor and front limit switch, and then a two-wire plug for the rear limit switch.

Last set & something is cut from the cab. I would presume its the ticket mech.

Yep I looked all over the play field and i don't see a thing related to that at all brother.

The machine is in pretty good shape.
