Hey guys, I'm looking to buy my first Pin after collecting arcades for years. Found a Comet from a guy who doesn't really know much about this stuff. He had it for his business. He says it won't play and i haven't had a chance to mess with it at all. I do know when its powered up the lights come on. I offered him 350 and he's willing to take it. Does this sound like a good deal for something that isn't necessarily in working order at the moment? (the body is in great shape btw) Ive run across many vids collecting over the years where the owner thinks its broken and after the buy i replace a fuse and it fires right up. I love the comet from my childhood and would love to have it, but i don't know much about pins yet. Any suggestions?

If it is in decent cosmetic condition and has all board and major parts I'd say do it. Replacemnt parts for Comet are pretty easy to find, and I think it is a fun pin. Good luck.

i think it a good deal.just make sure you look at the cpu and make sure it not rotted .since new cpu are some what expencive.good luck

thanks guys! Yeah it is cosmetically in great shape. and from what i can see inside everything is there. It doesn't look like any of the boards are rotting. From what it looks like its been sitting in a building folded up with a blanket over it for a while. So here is to hoping its a simple fix. for 350, it seems like a pretty good deal. just wanted to make sure i wasn't going to buy myself into a corner if there are some non replaceable parts or really expensive parts for it.

How do the plastic ramps look? Those are typically the hardest to find for any given pin. Based on your description, though, 350 seems like a good deal.

If it's in nice shape cosmetically I'd be all over that. I paid $130 for a replacement backglass for mine. Might be an easy fix like rebuilding the power supply.

ok so i picked up the comet yesterday. For the most part it is in good shape. the issue was the power supply needed to be rebuilt. fingers crossed when its complete that is the ONLY issue. The other issue like someone had mentioned before, the ramps are in pretty bad shape, and the largest center ramp is missing completely. I did find one on ebay but i was hoping someone on here had some, or new where i could get some? Thanks for the help guys!

Yikes! That center ramp will likely run you at least $100. The Million Point Shot ramp maybe around $50. You can try the pinball retail stores like:

Pinball Life
Marco Specialities
Bay Area Amusement
Etc., etc.

yeah, I've tried those places. They do sell them but are "out of stock" lol. I know the ramps haven't hit reproduction yet (fingers crossed) so i was hoping to find some from a collector or parted out machine. seems to be my only option at this point.

Comet was one of my first digital pins (and I still have it).

The pin is pretty decent. The only real downside is no multi-ball. It does have the 'one million' shot though. I've only hit it a handful of times.

Good luck finding the center ramp. Out of stock most places. Good news is that it has been repro'd and it's about $110 when you can find one.

If you are talking about a burned rectifier board, don't mess with rebuilding it. Get a nice new one from Ed at Great Plains Electronics. Excellent boards! Email him about one. They are always listed out of stock but he sometimes has one available. If not, email me. I think I might have one on the shelf. :)

That rectifier board is for classic Bally/Stern games only. It WILL NOT work in a Williams Comet.
