Looking for some replacement DC fans for my Virtual On cabinets. The BD unit fans in each cab ceased up probably a long time ago with all the dust. So I'd like to look for an easy and cheap replacement so my units don't overheat.

Its a Sunon 92mm fan, 12v DC and pulls about 1.6 watts.
I'm not looking for an exact replacement, but I just need to know if anyone has a particularly cheap hookup or the best place to find something like this. Maybe even something better to ensure a longer lifespan to my unit's Model 2 boards. Those ceramic roms and many of the processing chips tend to get pretty hot for something that is passively cooled without a heat sync.

My advice... Stay AWAY from DC fans! They always fail way faster then their AC counterparts. I dont know if you can find 92mm 120VAC fans though.

All that said, you will probably be OK with DC fans since the game is being used in a home and not an arcade. I just dont like the cheap bearings.

You've got a few Fry's Electronics in Houston right?

Matt

Ya, actually was thinking of going tomorrow to take a look since its my day off. Pretty sure I could find a fast and easy replacement for a 92mm 12VDC fan. Don't know why I didn't think of it, but most of the time I think of fans connected to the 5v line because of the red wires, but they are actually connected to the yellow 12v wires, and the wires going from that and the fan are red and black just to help with polarity clarification. Doh!

BTW... Cheap = you get what you pay for. A $2.00 DC fan isnt going to last anywhere near as long as a $15.00 AC fan...

I could understand that, but if I keep up the maintenance unlike the past owners who allowed dust to collect in like 1 inch layers everywhere the original DC fans might have not failed. Right now I'm just looking for something that I can hook up to it's original harness, I don't want to have to pull out that whole power board setup at the moment and re-wire an AC fan into the mix.

Just try to steer clear of the DC fans with the nylon bearings. Even if you do keep the blades clean the bearings over heat and dry up which causes the fan to seize. If you can find DC fans with metal bearings then your golden.

I got these at Fry's today

They are Antec Double Ball Bearing fans, with a variable speed control and RPM sensor lead......not that it matters, they'll be set at High and left along inside the cabinet lolz
Not that it matters that they are translucent either, not even LED lit fans, but it was the only thing that had double ball bearing, everything else was either different sizes or cheap.
